INTRODUCING: The WSO Applicant Database. Take 5 minutes on WSO to Reach Hundreds of Finance Recruiters and Finance Companies

Given that we have built up relationships with hundreds of companies and finance recruiters, we thought instead of just a simple job board (which you can find right here), we would also create a WSO Applicant Database.

This vision for the database is to allow all WSO users to create a detailed "Applicant Profile" that can be used by recruiters and companies to find great talent. It is similar to an online resume you see on LinkedIn, but with a lot more detail around actual skills relevant to financial positions, scores and certifications so that recruiters can use it to filter through candidates that are a great match for their spots.

We are going to keep this free for the WSO community and once the database is large enough, start charging recruiters and companies for access to these profiles (we expect to roll out the profile search in 4-6 weeks to our recruiter and company contacts once it is perfected).

To get started, all you have to do is click on the green button below:

Create Applicant Profile Here

Each user is allowed to only create 1 applicant profile so as to ensure you are selecting the target industry and jobs that you are actually most interested in. The applicant profiles, however, are not tied to your username, will not be index-able by Google and will only be viewable to Recruiters/Companies that pay for access.

Please let me know if you have any questions. We put in a lot of thought of what to collect in these profiles, but if you think we are missing something or have any questions, then please fire away as always!

Thanks,
Patrick

Are our profiles going to be modifiable after creating them? Like if we want to modify them we just press the green button again and bada bing bada boom?

Orkid:

The application name once registered is 'undergrad university name + GPA'.

Weakest part of my profile.

This. I just got done creating my profile and it does a great job at highlighting my weak points (school), and leaving all the good hidden behind the resume and LinkedIn links.

Also wondering how we can modify/edit our profiles?

Orkid:

Weakest part of my profile.

Very true. Otherwise, great idea, and it's coming out just at the right time. @"WallStreetOasis.com" the only thing I'd like is Greek added as a language παρακαλώ.
Maximum effort.

Thanks for the kind words and you are correct. The Applicant Profiles will only accessible to recruiters / companies looking to recruit.

Anyone will be able to search the database and filter to see if we have any candidates that meet their needs (with generic results like undergrad and major), but in order to actually see your profile or any contact info, they will have to sign up for a subscription.

I'm having trouble uploading my files.

I uploaded my picture and my resume. I then tried to upload three pieces of work that I've written, but upon trying to get the third one up it said that I exceeded my disk quota. I tried to delete one of them, but nothing happened, so I refreshed the page. Now when I'm trying to re-upload everything it keeps saying again that I've exceeded the disk quota.

Cries:

Will they be able to see my name and firm before contacting me? or will they see a generic 'hedge fund analyst' title instead of my name & firm at first?

If they subscribe to the Applicant Database then they will be able to see your name and contact information. If someone that is not a subscriber runs a search looking for professionals in HFs, they would see your profile in the search results but with only generic title. So to get your name, resume, contact info, they need to #1 be subscribed and #2 run a search and #3 click into your profile once it pops up after they run their filters.

Do you have another idea of how we could make it better? I assume your concern is that your current firm may see you created an Applicant Profile on WSO? Note, we do have a selection that asks "Available to Interview Immediately?"

Thanks, Patrick

We are in the process of building the filters and search process for recruiters and employers (the initial applicant profiles we are collecting now help us with testing).

You won't need to subscribe to run searches, but you will need to subscribe ("employer account") to get the contact information of any specific contacts. We will announce pricing then.

I am hopeful that we will have it ready and launched by July 14.

Thanks, Patrick

bro, nobody is forcing you to create an Applicant Profile and nobody said that recruiters / employers will filter by GPA. but yes, there is that option, along with 80+ other options/filters...so if you don't want to fill this out because you don't see the value or are upset that we ask GPA, then no problem.

Good luck, Patrick

Which is why you are offering it free for us, and paid subscriptions for the employers searching. It's called capitalism, and it's a free way for monkeys to get some exposure to firms. Somewhat of a win/win for employers and monkeys. I guess folks will always find a reason to complain about something that's free to them...

Awesome... A couple of quick questions tho: -Will the list be available to public anytime in the future? Putting my personal information linkedin URL and my resume makes me worry. -Is degree/major 1 supposed to be our undergrad degree or grad? (Do I put my grad degree on "degree/major 1" and undergrad on "degree/major 2" or it's the other way around?)

Thanks,

  1. No, your information will not be made public. I'm asking for name, phone # and personal details - and your privacy is important since I know many of you are currently already employed.

  2. For purposes of the search, it's fine in any order. The employers / recruiters will be filtering by type of degree and major, so they will just have 1 search filter for each of those. We just have 3 spots for the applicants with multiple degrees and majors...

That answer everything?

we havent developed this "blocking" capability yet, but I think we can do it as long as we force each subscriber to select the company they work for (then we exclude employees from that company from appearing...).

Will let you guys know when we get that going. as an fyi, we haven't released access yet to a wide range of employers and recruiters, but expect to launch it in early August.

I am happy to report that recruiters will now NOT be able to see you if you currently work at their specific firm. This took a bit of coding work, but will help members create an Applicant Profile without fear that their employer will see them on here. We will be tagging every recruiter with their company so that when they search, no Applicant Profiles from the same company are listed.

@wallstreetoasis.com Not sure if anyone has suggested this yet, but would it be possible to have a counter showing how many times our profile and/or resume has been viewed? This gives applicants a little extra insight to the attractiveness of their profile.

I selected a UK University and the 'Education & Scores' section is still geared towards GPA and SAT scores. Is there an option to select regional scoring that I have missed? I noticed the GPA scale goes up to 5.0 but a 1st class UK degree counts as 4 from the brief searching I did. I'm probably doing something daft but some advice would be appreciated, even if just on converting UK grades to US equivalents (I don't think I have a Verbal SAT grade for a start...)

@"Calderwood" - I would err on the answer that you get from Patrick, but if you are ultimately given a 5 point scale and your GPA is actually on a 4 point scale, if it were me, I'd adjust mine to reflect the equivalent 5 point score. That's just my thoughts, but Patrick might be able to look into it. The worst thing an employer would have to deal with is asking how you got a 4.2 or something to that effect, which you could easily explain.

I'm a student and currently not working so I want to leave the "current firm" field blank. However, it says that this field is required. Am I missing something?

recruiters tend to focus on applicants with some experience, however, this is not the case for all. Also, we do expect that many companies will be using the database to source candidates directly (undergrads and experienced hires).

so we really are going to be tapping into all of our contacts for this. Heavy push coming soon :-)

yes, every employer that registers with us has to confirm what company they are coming from. (We tag that user with a company). If you put that you work for that company in your applicant profile, your applicant profile will not show up in searches for them.

We thought that added layer of protection would make WSO members more comfortable building their applicant profile and the database is growing nicely now!

Good question :-) Patrick

That 'block current employer' capability is key; thank you Patrick; definitely setting up a profile

Not sure if this question has been asked - Is there a way to filter jobs by when the application was posted or when it is due? Some of these job postings are outdated. Great work!

This is a huge benefit for the members of this website. There are very few forums that do as much for its members as WSO does.
