Is an MBA restart really possible?
I've been teaching for several years at a private high school (not TFA obviously). Before that, I worked on several research database projects at an HYP research institute. I have zero business experience and a very academic resume.
If I managed to get into a top 15 school (I have high numbers), what's the possibility that I could do a career restart in another industry? I honestly thought it was a given, but now I'm not so sure. While I'm a great candidate for education non-profit management, I want to work in management consulting, but I don't really care if it's MBB. Would recruiters look past my weird background, or would my lack of prior experience make an industry switch impossible?
Yes you can switch.
I believe McKinsey designates recruiters to different target schools, if I was you I'd get an information interview with a recruiter for consulting, anyone currently in the industry and with career services at your intended school. That way you can get a range of opinions on this subject.
