Deloitte is known for auditing and related activities (tax advisory, transaction services), although it was the only big5 (now big4) not to spin off it's Consulting arm due to Sarbanes-Oxley act and various other reasons. I believe consulting activities are run as an independent subsidiary. This Consulting arm does have a strategy practice, but it's mainly operations advisory, not really respected/recognised for strategy expertise.

My roommate is going to work for Deloitte Consulting post graduation. He says they pretty much have nothing to do with the auditing arm etc. He, like myself, is graduating with a degree in IT. And yes, Deloitte is primarily IT consulting. Certainly not a bad firm but not quite on the same tier as Bain etc

DC is really good at what they do a lot of - which is actuarial, IT, systems, etc. work. M/B/B and DC just aren't known for the same things, generally speaking. It just depends what you're interested in..if you want to do a lot of programming or tough actuarial math work, stay away from M/B/B and go to DC. If you want to do less analytical, more strategy work than M/B/B is the place to be.

At the upper levels, you can make a ton of money at DC or M/B/B. M/B/B will offer you more broad exit opportunities though should you want to leave after 2 years.

If you are going for consulting definitely go with Deloitte. If you are in Audit or Tax, it really depends on the area, industry, and culture. For example, PWC owns NY for financial industry, EY & Deloitte own the industry in LA, KPMG in Phoenix is a complete joke. At the end of the day they are all brand names and it really depends on your colleagues that will determine your quality of life. You'll be working with these people 10 hours a day.

I didn't mean I'm guaranteed a job there. I wanted to ask this question after seeing someone who had labeled Deloitte as a top 10 consulting firm and was almost surprised because I wouldn't exactly consider MSU to have many companies in the top of their industries looking to recruit there.

It doesn't look like it. Businessweek's profile of them says 94 percent have jobs within 3 months of graduation. Which is surprisingly better than many colleges

Deloitte is a great company to work for depending on your interests. Its a top notch tax and audit firm and they have a strong consulting practice that while it isn't MBB is still well respected. That being said Deloitte Consulting doesn't recruit at MSU at all and you have a slim to none chance of getting in. It happens but its maybe one guy every other year opposed to the dozens of audit/tax people the firm takes. As much as it pains me to say it, if consulting is your endgame you should go to UofM. To answer your other question the interns in audit/tax this year are getting offers around 53k plus a small bonus. Consulting starts higher than that but not sure where exactly.

If you make it into Deloitte Consulting (which, as others have already stated, is difficult), the starting salary is around 80k. I'm a first-year at the firm and I cleared 85k, counting bonuses (yes, you do get bonuses depending on the project).

Good luck in college OP. Take your time...enjoy it, and keep an open mind. I, like many others on here, went in with the conviction that I'd go one route (law) only to go into consulting at the last minute.

Your statistics are completely wrong kcirtap35.

I just looked at the Career Center's report.

http://lear.broad.msu.edu/documents/employers/2012%20Dest%20Survey%20Fi…

Top Employers are General Mills, General Motors, Amazon, GE, Quicken, Sears, Eaton, Ford, Target, Coyote, etc.

Only 71% of graduates were employed, 97% of graduates were "resolved" (that includes graduate school, etc).

Deloitte took 7 students, 5 of which were Accounting majors. So at most 2 went to Consulting for Deloitte.

It looks as if the average salary after graduation is somewhere around $50,000 which would put it below the United States Average business major salary of around $56,000.

Hey @"consultingmonkey93", you Dumbass

It was really nice of you to research ALL that shit just to prove him wrong. You are so dedicated to this website, wow.

Give a source for your average business major salary, I bet its skewed.

@"kcirtap35" Deloitte is a great firm but they do cover a wide range of functions and you should look into which fields they recruit for and see if thats what you want to do. It'll take more research but don't listen to assholes like @"consultingmonkey93" who wanna put you down

OP -- You haven't even begun college yet, meaning that you have no real idea what you want to do afterwards.

I went into college to get a business major firmly set on going to law school after. Spent the first two summers working retail and sitting on my ass, hanging out with friends. Decided mid-way through I wanted to be an investment banker. Did an internship and hated it. Ended up in consulting and it's been a solid fit and great experience.

Point is, focus more on balancing good grades, extra-curricular activities (both in school and outside of it) and having the time of your life partying, traveling, making friends, cheering MSU on, whatever. Worry about jobs afterwards kid, that's what the next 40 years after college are for.

Deloitte's mgmt consulting branch (s&o) is hard to get into, even if you attend a top 15 college. however, Deloitte consulting isn't just all strategy - it's broken down into s&o, technology, and human capital.

the latter two areas are much, much easier to get into compared to formal. I have an offer to join Deloitte consulting's tech consulting practice (bta program), and I know plenty of kids from complete non-target colleges who got offers.

the point is, if you are only interested in strategy consulting, then you should attend a much better college to even have a shot. if you are ok with working for Deloitte's accounting division, or Deloitte consulting's tech consulting practice, etc, then you should be ok attending michigan state. hope this helps.
