Is Louis Vuitton too flashy?

For normal sized purses I have the LV Neverfull in three different prints. The rest of my bags are all crossbody style. I was wondering if the carrying a LV bag to an informational interview and/or interview gives a bad vibe. I feel like the brown Neverfull monogram is such a common bag it shouldn't but I don't want to risk coming off as spoiled. Thoughts?

Think from the opposite end--what advantage will having an LV bag in an interview provide?

Interviewer: "Oh, look, an LV bag, this must make them a good hire with an even better fashion taste. Definitely what we've been looking for!"

Sounds far fetched? Then skew conservative, I don't think it will provide you any edge and may work against you...

If you're meeting with a male, he will probably neither notice nor care. If you're meeting with a female, she'll either not care or slightly disapprove. Being flashy is never going to help you

The bag I have is literally the one everyone has. It's a best seller. I feel like if I went to talk with female and she couldn't afford it she might not like me but women in IB make six figures so I don't think that should be a problem. What I am worried about if giving off a vibe that I am spoiled or materialistic and people not wanting to work with me. Do you think that could happen?

Goodness, you sound naive as fuck. Just get a more classy bag that doesn't scream its brand. At least that will hide your materialism or the image of being spoiled. The definition of affordability is different for everyone. The thread baffles me. It's like you have two choices and clearly you can't go wrong with one of the choices, yet you still somehow try to find ways to go with the other risky choice.

Every time I see a woman with a LV bag I assume it is fake. Why anyone would pay money for that brand baffles me.

If you are a guy, oh god, be prepared to get roasted after you leave. Especially if it is brown with the logos all over.

Thank you for the advice! Mine are all women purses and real. I think for the most part it is fairly easy to tell if a bag is real or fake. Usually you can tell by the color of the handles. Are there any brands that you would suggest, that are perceived as respectable in the industry?

This. so sad and yet so true.

Thoughts? You're trying to show off and humblebrag.

If this is a serious question the right answer is "it depends". Know who you are interviewing with and where they're coming from. Some people will perceive this as you trying too hard to show off, which is much more likely. Others are snobbish enough that this will incline them to believe that you're the "right" kind of person. This also tends to be the kind of person who gets hung on prestige rankings.

Way overkill. When you're a VP at KKR or Blackstone, then go for it, mater of fact rock whatever purse you damn well feel like. Till then, go with something more modest. If you want to sport your bitchin' LV pursue, hold off till the weekends and outside the office.

You could do Celine as no one really knows what it is and the branding is understated ha. In all honesty though, it's based on personal preference but ultimately you want something that's simple with very minimal branding, particularly if it's designer. There are YSL tote bags that aren't too much or you could opt for something like say some of the more unbranded MK or Tory Burch.

Ultimately, I really don't think people care all that much and frankly the neverfull really isn't that luxurious of a bag. Just don't come in with some python or croc Prada, Chanel or something similar that screams that it's very expensive.

Anything that is black / white and does not have tons of logos on it. Rather take something in that is understated and far from flashy, no one will judge you for a quiet looking bag. People will judge you for having big logos, coming across snobbish, or "better than thou" attitudes.

Do some research, look at Nordstrom's website. If you can't figure some of this out on your own.... is IB really the right industry for you?

alright, if you dont have the basic social intelligence to know that you should not be bringing your LV bag to an informational interview banking, a very social intelligence based industry, is probably not for you. Look there are a lot of rich kids at ivies and other top schools aiming to get into banking who have hermes belts and ties their dads gave them, but none of them are stupid enough to wear it to a coffee chat, networking session, or an interview. if you cant properly answer these questions yourself, even in the off chance you pass the networking and interview screening and get a job, youll eventually find yourself ridiculed around the office for being the guy that wears the gucci belt (and theyll call it the gap belt) and senior bankers will pile work on you cause you come off as the pretentious analyst, your banking life will be shit, and youll end up leaving the industry

Even if you have the money, you don't have to buy it. I think this comes down to subjective value. Slap on the LV logo on a bag, does the bag's utility go up? People by into LV and other luxury brands simply because of subjective value.

What do you call an economist who forecasts? Wrong!
