Slight Resume Typo
I recently sent out a few applications to reputable companies for internships. After re-reading the resume I noticed a small spelling mistake. For one of the bullet points under a previous experience I used the word "complied data" rather than "compiled data." Is this mistake big enough to get me rejected? Should I submit an updated copy to the companies I have applied to? Thanks for your help!
What did you apply for? If IBD or similar, if they catch it it'll probably be an auto ding unless your resume is super stellar. Attention to detail is huge in finance and a typo would definitely not look good.
WF accelerated application and I have a lot of connections there and then two boutiques, but the important one that I don't want to get thrown out of is WF
It's WF you're safe. They haven't been bothered by the small details in the past before! You'll probably make Associate
Are these internships for this fall? Or next summer?
Summer 2018
Which companies have applications out this early? Just curious. (I am a rising sophomore)
You'd think that would help. "Complied data" makes it sound like you modified/falsified it. As we all know, that's a key aptitude that has helped some of their executives climb the ranks, make bonuses, etc.
Grammatical mistakes are not acceptable in resumes. You should have read and re-read your resume before getting someone else to look over it.
Thanks mom. I didn't just write it and send it out the moment I finished. Multiple people read through it and all missed it too
And you all still missed it. You came to a forum asking for advice on a spelling mistake and you're getting good responses. Don't act annoyed.
sent resume with error (Originally Posted: 07/13/2017)
Asked someone for a coffee chat and sent him my resume with an error, should I send it again and apologize for the error?
No.
If you don't point it out he might not notice. If you send him a new copy he will 100% notice and he'll still judge you for sending a resume with a mistake.
what if for when i actually apply for the internship? what if he just sends the resume i gave him to hr?
Is this a big deal? All of resume size 11.5, 1 line is size 12 (Originally Posted: 01/06/2011)
I just send my resume to a bank, and thought it was error-free. When I was editing it later on the same day, I noticed 1 line was bigger than the rest. My normal font size is 11.5, but this line was 12. I know a stupid mistake, but this was a really good job opportunity.
Do you think this will screw my chances in getting an interview? What would you do in my situation to fix my problem?
You are fucked. You should just go and get rammed up the ass by a horse and then shove off this mortal coil
No, it's not a big deal. Chill. Out.
I agree with Gekko, that's just as bad as lying about your GPA
i would call up the bank and apologize for being incompetent
IT'S NOT TOO LATE, CALL THEM ASAP AND APOLOGIZE
tell them that this oversight is not an accurate representation of your attention to detail
Call them up and ask if they noticed anything strange. If they say no, say "A-HA!" and explain how you're attention to detail is probably better than theirs, thus you should get an offer.
Seriously, you'll be OK. It's not the most professional thing, but if your resume is otherwise solid, that's the dumb reason to ding someone.
So are the layouts of resumes not something to be worried about then guys? Obviously you don't want to have 10 different sizes of font, but will an "ugly" resume with a weird style tend to hurt you even in the slightest?
I hear people asking for help on their resume all the time, but I'm never sure on whether they're asking for help with the format or help with content to put in it. (because people comment on both)
Grammar - Mistake on resume (Originally Posted: 12/15/2007)
I know I am prob gonna get laughed at for this, but I was looking over my resume and in one bullet point it says "lead" where it should say "led". I have already submitted my resume to banks. Is this going to ding me automatically? I am very angry at myself.
The analysts reviewing resumes barely even read each one. I spend about 20 seconds per resume when selecting people for first round interviews.
If someone does notice it, yes you might get dinged. Personally I don't care and wouldn't make a decision based on that, but if someone really anal is reviewing who knows.
Nothing you can do about it now, though, so best just to relax.
Definitely don't think it would be an automatic ding.
