Is this legit? - PE shops

So a friend of mine started at ML Asia early this year; he worked two months as an "Analyst Intern", was then given a full-time offer and started as full-time analyst immediately after his internship ended.
Now he is applying to PE shops in Asia, and he writes on his resume that he was an "Mergers and Acquisitions Analyst", but he includes in the dates worked the 2 months when he was formally still an intern.

Don't you have to indicate on your resume that you were an intern from, say, January-February and then an Analyst, from March-present? Do people care about that distinction? Is it legit to do what my friend did, or could it get you into trouble? How do banks report your dates worked to other firms that inquire?

Cheers,

Alcman

its fine - he started at one level and was basically promoted; so he puts the last position held on his resume... if anyone asks, its a pretty simple explanation

why is he applying for jobs after 4 months? personally i would be more concerned about that on my resume...

I, too, think it's fine, actually. As an intern, he did the same work that the full-time analysts did during their first two months, so who cares?

He applies to jobs because he wants to get away from his group and also he found out he cannot stand spending 100 hours a week in the office. He is looking for a job at some decent Asia-focused PE shop that doesn't require putting in that many hours.

Thinks for yourself a bit, instead of asking "don't you have to do this, or that". I mean, seriously, what would they do to him, fire him? Think about it.
