Props to the SEC and DOJ on this. Not that I like seeing someone going to jail, but letting someone get away with such clear-cut insider trading would be worse.
The guilty finding/ immediate jail sentence sends an important message to everyone in finance- you might be smart, but you can't outsmart the law. It's been a while in coming, but better late than never.
Expect more insider trading cases- and perhaps more guilty findings- in the future. This is just the tip of the iceberg in terms of securities fraud prosecutions, and judging by the political rhetoric, the public and the regulators are thirsty for blood. They are going to be making examples of people- Rajaratnam will be lucky if he gets something as small as Milken's two year sentence.
