Is double degree BBA/ Comp Sci good enough for Wall Street?
I'm a first year student at Wilfrid Laurier University. I'm planning on graduating in 5 years with a dual degree in BBA and Computer Science. The math side of CS seems to apply the most to the finance field of business which is why I wanted to know if Wall Street takes any double degree students. I'm still not sure what side of business I want to be, the ones that stick out to me the most is the consulting, finance and international business.
Ivey HBA & Comp Sci (BSc) Dual Degree (Originally Posted: 06/16/2013)
Hey WSO, I am attending the University of Western Ontario in the fall and I have pre-admission to the Ivey business school for the third and fourth year. As of right now, I will be studying Social Science for the first two years. However, recently I've had a change of heart (since social science is essentially useless) and was thinking about pursuing the 5-year Ivey HBA and Comp Sci dual degree program. How useful would a Computer Science degree be along with my business degree? For anyone who is a student at UWO/Ivey or are alumni, could you comment on the feasibility and difficulty of the program? My goal is to pursue investment banking or consulting upon graduation and I have interests in technology as well.

Hey there! Just wondering, what program did you end up choosing? I'm in exactly the same situation as you, and I'm thinking of switching to CS for the same reasons. If you did end up transferring, are you happy with your decision?

Getting a finance degree will be worthless to you in VC. Focus on Computer Science and take a few accounting classes. Read some Michael Porter in your free time. FWIW, focus on becoming a human being in college...stressing about this in the first semester of your senior year screams autobot.
I'd pick one major and focus on the grades and landing internships. Better to have a 3.6 in one of those, than 2.5-3.0 in both.
Major in CS and minor in Finance.

I'm a rising sophomore at Wharton, currently studying finance. Thus far, Wharton hasn't been too difficult, and I've maintained a fairly high GPA.
I'm looking for a bit more of a challenge and am considering doing a dual degree with computer science. I'd have to take about 10 additional engineering courses, most of which seem manageable.
I'm interested in getting into trading and, later down the road, entrepreneurship. No matter what I do, I think CS will be useful in some way or another. However, I don't want a second degree to kill my social life and/or GPA.
Do you think that a CS degree is worthwhile to work towards? Will recruiters consider a lower GPA due to the dual degree? Would it make more sense to stay just in Wharton and focus on getting a solid GPA and experience there?

Do it. You're paying to go to college, at least challenge yourself while you're there. Worst case scenario, just minor in CS if it gets too hard.
