Ivy Computer Science Junior

Hello. I am currently a junior at a mid-tier Ivy. I'm looking to get an internship in quant or M&A.

I have interned at a technology start-up as a software engineer and at a BB bank as a Technology Analyst. I know having the BB name on my resume will help. I also have a 3.8+ GPA.

My only worry is that I haven't networked enough. I transferred after my Freshman year, and I interned part-time during my sophomore year, so I haven't gotten as involved with the finance clubs as I should have. I haven't had much success emailing alumni on LinkedIn, but I'm still trying.

I'm also trying to market myself to seem finance-oriented. I don't want firms to think I'm interviewing for the wrong industry. I like programming, but I've realized that my true passion lies in finance. I know that my analytical skills will be very useful for building models in IB.

Does anyone have any advice on how I can network more effectively and market myself before recruiting season picks up this year? Thanks in advance.

Networking takes time and effort, so simply emailing people that went to your university is not an effective networking tool. Maybe attending your local professional organizations and volunteering events can lead to connections. Then those connections may know somebody in IB.
