JD/MBA + CPA or CFA?
I am new to this and just looking for some friendly advice. I am currently a 2L and am quickly realizing that I do not have a passion to be a lawyer but I do have a passion for finance. I completed my MBA right after my BS-Econ which turned out to be not as great as advertised. I went to a state school, nothing impressive about my grades. I currently go to 150+ law school. I am determined to get into IB/PE/VC some how. I want to strengthen my skillset with a certification and cannot decide between the CFA and the CPA. The CFA helps me get into the finance arena but limits my back up plan. The CPA is interesting because it allows me to maintain my contingency plan of pursuing tax law if I cannot get a decent job out of law school. But my concern is that the CPA does help me get into my desired area as much as a CFA would. Is this true? I would just like to hear some opinions on which path would be best. I'm interested in making lots of money not being a lawyer. Thank you.
Out of interest why do you think CFA limits your backup plan?
This is your mistake. Talk to most successful people and they will tell you to pursue what you enjoy and make yourself the best at it, rather than be mediocre in something which can get you paid. Probably going to get MS for this but I agree. You will hate your life if all you are doing is chasing money in a job you hate.
This is correct. Very difficult to be truly successful if cash is your sole motivator.
