Jeter's Game-Winning Single

Crazy to watch, if someone wrote that as a movie script you'd think it was ridiculous. Not at all a Yankees fan but huge respect for someone being as consistently good as he was for 20 years. Really one of the most moving things I've seen in baseball in my lifetime.

Any other baseball fans on here? I feel like it doesn't get discussed enough.

Yeah good call.

I really can't stand to see people shit-talk him...the guy is humble, calm, collected, and works harder than almost anyone else in the game. He's just an all-around respectable guy. Really wish I had gotten a chance to see him play in person.

I like Jeter and loved that he went out on a walk off hit, great way to end a great career. But I am a little tired of hearing about his retirement tour like he is the best Yankee or player to ever live. I am not hating on Jeter just the way the media has portrayed it. For example Chipper Jones retired a few years ago and got no where near the attention even though he has better career numbers than Jeter and played for a national team as well in the Braves.

But again Jeter has provided some great memories and had a great career. Yeah Jeets!!

@"Eigenvector" he's one of the best players for the most popular sports franchise in the world, of course he's going to get more attention, but baseball's always been irrational. definitely not best player to ever live. never saw him play of course, but I think that title still goes to Willie Mays (batting, fielding, running), despite the Sporting News putting Ruth above him (I'd concede Ruth is a better hitter stat wise, but he wasn't the total player Mays was).

despite my love for Cal, people gave him all sorts of accolades when he retired. as much as I wish it were so, he's not the greatest player to ever live. his stats are great (more home runs than you'd think: 431), but he's got a sub 300 average and hardly any stolen bases (1/4 of Babe Ruth's and he played just as long). Jeter is a great player, he'll be remembered for being a clutch hitter, a class act, and a great shortstop. he has a good average, not a lot of home runs, and a ton of hits. I'd still rank other hitters over him, but he brought a certain clutchness to the Yankees but did it with class. although he is a great player and I recognize an argument can be made, I do not think he is the greatest player to ever live.

@"JrMistMaker" the O's are 6 games back from the Angels. unless they win out and the Angels lose out (pretty much, not exactly), they can't really improve their positioning, so it wouldn't surprise me if he let a curveball hang to give ol No. 2 some glory. that being said, he has gotten over 3,000 other hits so the chances were pretty good he'd get one more.

I don't actually believe it was rigged but it was just such a ridiculous thing that they blow the lead and he saves the day. They definitely tried to give that to him. Easily could have walked him... the catcher tried that hard to catch the throw either.

Pitcher served that hanging off speed pitch on a platter, wonder if it was out of respect. I only was able to catch the end of the game, were they pitching to him all night? Pitching analysis please...

Rarely will any of my posts have enough forethought/structure to be taken seriously.

except its at Fenway. For the record I thought his walk off single last night was pretty cool, but he still has 3 games left to play and his team isn't going to the playoffs. Much of that is out of his control but at the end of the day it was a meaningless game that he won. And no, I'm not a Jeter hater. I am a sox fan and respect the hell out of him and the tail he has pulled.
