Job In OPS

I currently work in the very back of the back office at an operations outsourcing company. I recently interviewed with a MM bank for a MO operations position and have recently received an offer. I want to get out of operations but I don't want to pass up an opportunity to get my foot-in-the-door at a good organization.

My question is: would it be worth it to accept another position in operations at a better company, or stay where I am at and continue to network and keep looking for something else?

Thanks.

Middle Office is typically the ops people that sit on the trading desk doing things like trade entry and reconciliation. Some banks, like GS, define these roles as MO.

To answer the original question, if it's a better firm, and you are going to work directly with the traders, it's probably a worthwhile move.

A couple of things to take into considerstion here: Salary, firm prestige, opportunities forth growth, what would look better in a BSchool app, etc.

MO operations sounds like he/she is trying to make the job seem more appealing to himself or to others hahaha

Agreed.

OP, this is an easy decision. Go ahead and accept the offer. Just be sure that you know what your eventual goals are.

Thanks for the advice guys.

The salary is a much better and the bank is definitely more renowned than where I am currently at. However, the job function is basically the same exact thing I'm doing now which involves aggregating data from different support teams and entering it into databases. The location is also less than ideal and would require me to move (not that I have problem with moving) to an area not located near a major city.

Opstar lifestyle, might not make it

Any other opinions? I'm trying to hear as many viewpoints as possible. I'm still 50/50 and need to make a decision today.

I actually did Middle Office for an intern role at a BB. I am wondering what are your long term goals? I ask because I knew I wanted to work in IB and that role helped me progress towards that goal and I was able to network pretty well in that role. PM for more info.

What kind of career progression do you see from these "MO" desk support type roles ? Progression possible into a trading role ? Or sales or product analysts for a desk?

I think Risk Management is very possible. Some guy posted a topic asking what he should do next in his career as he felt stuck making 6 figures in a Risk Management/MO role at a hedge fund for
