Job Market - Few articles about IBD on Bloomberg
There have been a few articles on Bloomberg recently about IBD (Credit Suisse, Barclay's) cutting jobs in response to the recent slowdown in the economy and capital market activity. Is anyone seeing hiring freezes or reduced headcount across the industry? Recently, I have noticed fewer open Investment Banking Analyst position available in Chicago.
Back Office
pretty sure that barcap and cs' layoffs were FO

No they were ops and other support functions...why do people talk out of their ass so much on this site?
Irrespective of people talking out of their asses and if the layoffs were front office or back office.
My questions were actually:
Are people that actually work for an Investment bank on a day to day basis seeing hiring pickup or slowdown? Is there a need to hire more employees at this time? What is the actual employment landscape for IBD for which you work?
barclays was backoffice
there's a need of laterals. No so much for incoming FT
Barclays Capital was back office, specifically in S&T (S&T revenues way down this year) They are actually looking to expand their IBD
So offers are out at all banks. How is the FT recruiting outlook really like? Any IBD post on target schools' website?
i cant speak to USA recruiting, but Europe recruiting is on for all banks SA and FT
Know someone who was recently offered a Barclays FO job as a lateral hire.
this might be a more general question, but when you (and other people) speak of lateral hires, do you mean people with i-banking experience elsewhere? or does it include people with other types of experience, as long as they're not coming straight out of school?
if you are lateraling into IB, you either came from another bank, a big 4 advisory role, corporate law, or MBB consulting.
Will IB begin to hire analysts from outside the industry or undergrads when they are done potching eachothers analysts?
Has dealflow picked up enough to warrant additional analyst?
Dealflow is nuts right now in the middle market. I can't kill deals fast enough, they just keep coming in.
Any word from BBs on this front?
MANY groups are getting killed at my bulge bracket right now.
