Mmh if the boutique is really small (eg. the typical BB recruiter would not know it) I would take ER at Nomura, it will give you solid skills and the name is well-known. I wouldn't touch JPM PBS if your goal is IBD.

Ehhh I'd say it would be a toss up between Nomura ER and JPM PB solutions if this is your line of reasoning. ER is strictly research, whereas the JPM job is half research/half S&T, so it would give him a broader skill set coming out, but it isn't quite as focused on one thing

I would agree with you, but then we'd both be wrong.

Is the PB Solutions group the "investing" side of private banking? What do they do on a daily basis?

I really like the Nomura equity research option. First, for the likelihood of a full-time offer, both for your job security, and because its important to have when recruiting for investment banking. Second, I disagree to an extent with the school of thought that boutique/no-name investment banking is always better than anything else if you want banking. Third, Nomura equity research is (perhaps surprisingly) fairly strong, especially considering guys like Glenn Schorr.

I would agree. I'd go 1) Nomura ER, 2) Boutique IB, 3) JPM PB

There have been some not so great stories on JPM PB on the board for internships.

Yeah, when I said that I was thinking in my mind an elite boutique or at least a reputable one; a no-name one wouldn't make much sense.

I would agree with you, but then we'd both be wrong.
