JPM CIB Credit Risk Groups
I recently received an offer from JPM CIB Credit Risk and was wondering if someone could give me some insight into the different industry groups we can be placed in. Which groups are the most competitive? Most modeling? Best culture? Best exit opps? Any comments are helpful! Thanks
Did you have the superday today?
JPMorgan IB Risk- Best Groups (Originally Posted: 03/27/2013)
Hi. I was just curious to know what the best groups in JPMorgan's IB Risk were.
By best, I mean by prestige primarily. I'm also curious to know which one is the most genuinely interesting to be working in and the possible workload/hours.
Thanks!
financial institutions
I'm not sure about prestige... But a close friend of mine works in IB Risk on the Market Risk side at JPM. He says the best place to be is on the coverage teams where you basically work alongside the traders on the floor. The best part is that they get paid like traders do with pretty jumbo sized bonuses. I dunno if this is specific to his experience, but he received $40k+ in bonus his first year as analyst while working 12-13 hrs a day. Not Bad.

Does anyone know about JP Morgan IB risk? (Originally Posted: 02/04/2013)
I know this is part of the risk management framework at jp morgan (aka not IB), but does anyone have any info on this group?
Thanks.
Do you want to know anything specific? I have a contact in the group.
Basically I've heard mixed reviews of whether its MO or FOish. Some say it's identical to risk at other firms, and other people say that they get same starting pay + training as IB analysts. If you know what is correct I would appreciate it.
There is a superday for JPM IB risk this Friday.
It's FO and part of IB based on what I know
Same pay and training
You work with the actual coverage bankers, but it is more of a MO role since you're not actually bringing in the deals. Pay is the same and bonus is just a slight discount to your IBD counterparts at the junior level. Training is the same as IBD

Analyst salary/hours/exit opps in credit risk?
Many thanks in advance.
Please don't make it into that BO/MO/FO bull started by mrvau, just want realistic answers for the UK.
Thanks a lot
Are you looking to move into IB? MBA? Gain credit experience? Risk groups won't give you the valuation experience M&A does, but you can leverage credit work into lev fin, sponsors, etc.
I won't lie, I'm not entirely sure. Potentially PE/VC, don't think I have any passion for markets any more, more interested in business development. I heard the first 8 weeks are similar to IBD in the way of training, so hopefully I wouldn't be too far behind in knowledge? Maybe I'm being naive.
How much technical knowledge would be required in an interview? I know nothing of valuation/modelling/finance/accounting. First interview is competency based though not technical. For the second would I be required to have learnt an online modelling course?
Salary on par w/ IBD, bonus probably 15-20%. Exits opps obviously not BB IBD, but a solid position to start out in. T3 MBA is probably a stretch but T10 is a possibility if everything else in your profile is competitive (a former colleague just matriculated to a T10 mba)
This opportunity is more than I ever dreamed possible quite frankly, might seem like an odd thing to say but it's because of places like this that I have made it this far, so thanks to all the random people who take the time to answer questions.
To be honest I'm not really that interested in an MBA, but the fact top 10 is realistic is definitely good to know! Thanks for your post. That was what I assumed salary wise to be honest but it's definitely nice to have it validated.
I'm assuming BB IBD bonus is normally higher but the hours are slightly worse.
This is more than enough money anyway to start on (heck most people won't ever reach this level).
Sure. let us know how it goes
