Just moved to NYC from L.A.
I just moved to NYC from Los Angeles. Been here for a few weeks.
Initial impressions: the subway system is pretty cool, and it feels like a "real" city, unlike Los Angeles, which is pretty spread out. I like the fact that I don't have to drive. And there are a lot of good restaurants here, although I think L.A. definitely has better sushi and mexican food.
Two things that really bother me though about NYC are the weather and women. I could deal with the former, although it will take time to adjust. But I've been utterly shocked at the low quality of women. Just this past weekend, I went out to a bunch of spots, like rose bar, 1OAK, beatrice inn, bungalow 8, and a few other places. The entire weekend, I saw maybe 2 or 3 girls who were hot. And even they would be barely above average in Los Angeles. Jut walking around the city, I barely see any eye candy.
Don't get me wrong. NYC is a great city with lots to offer. But hot girls is not one of them. For that, you gotta be in Los Angeles, San Diego, Miami, or Dallas.
No way LA has better sushi (but definitely better mexi). Live a little longer in NYC and you'll discover some great sushi places.
The women are just totally different in both. I lived in NYC and just got back from LA last weekend. It depends on your type. Honestly, I didn't see nearly as many good looking women as I had hoped while I was in LA but I know the talent is there just from being in Vegas and meeting nothing but LA girls. NYC is a big city, give it some time and you'll see the girls come out, especially in Spring and Summer.
You really think NYC has better sushi than LA? I went to sushi yasuda last week, which was ranked by zagat as the best sushi joint in NYC. It was good, don't get me wrong, but not as good as the top LA venues. I haven't been to masa yet, but definitely want to check it out eventually. The breadth of high-quality sushi restaurants in LA is just staggering.
Regarding girls, it seems like NYC girls are too pale, out of shape, and waifish. I'm not into rail thin girls who look like kate moss and smoke a pack a day. LA is full of hot tanned blondes who take great care of their bodies. I don't think it's even debatable that LA has hotter chicks than NYC.
I hope things do get better, but I've already been to the "hot" clubs in NYC and was completely unimpressed by the quality of women.
I went to Yasuda after seeing how hyped up it was in Zagat's and it was thoroughly disappointing.
I'd suggest getting off of the Zagat trail. The best thing about NYC is discovering the hole in the wall places that are amazing. Although I don't try to discover new places with sushi, since Im pretty particular... see which places people recommend.
haha, i guess it depends if you like "dirty hot girls" or not. Many of my friends who are from LA prefer the blonde, dirty-hot girls rather than the more waifish, model-esque ones while other ones think the blonde 'healthy' girls in LA are too plastic-y and superficial. From a girl's standpoint, the guys in cali (on the beach) are pretty yummy to look at but that's it.
Try going to some of the clubs during the week. Too much long island/jersey is mixed in on the weekends. Yes, even at the "hot" clubs.
Some of the best sushi I've had in NY is definitely off the beaten trail of Zagat. But again, sushi is one of those things which many people disagree with what's "good".
Just curious, what do you consider great sushi in LA?
Most hot girls in NYC are in hibernation until spring or they have boyfriends from October until March so that they can get free meals and gifts and stay warm...come spring time they stop eating and start whoring it up

Yeah, I guess it's a totally different look. In LA, all my girlfriends fit that typical california blonde beach girl look, and I barely see girls who look like that here in NYC. I'm not saying there's no hot girls here, but they're very rare, at least in my opinion. There's a reason why no one ever talks about NYC as having a lot of beautiful women.
GameTheory, thanks for the tip. Is there a specific equinox branch that has a lot of talent? I know there's like 20 equinox gyms in the city.
I still don't understand why people pay so much for gyms such as equinox. I have intense workouts and I tend not to socialize. Do people go to these gyms to network?
totally agree dipset. my goal is the gym as to bang out my workout and get the hell out of there. ive also found that equinox gyms are tailored for 40-yr old women, tons and tons of cardio but not enough of a free weight section.
One of my friends here went to pocket change's fashion meets finance party at the empire hotel. He reluctantly went and said the girls were downright horrendous.
Oh well. Just gotta deal with it. NYC will never have the girls of LA's caliber.
