Long, dyed hair
To put it bluntly I'm in love with my hair. I ombred it a couple months back and it looks fantastic if I do say so myself. It's also really long, past the small of my back (few inches from buttcrack at longest). Long hair don't care right?
However I'm about to start an internship at a BB. I wasn't planning on cutting my hair for this (maybe just pull it back into a bun or something) but I started getting a lot of comments about when I was going to dye it back/cut it for work. I really really don't want to because as I said before I really like it right now. For those who don't know what ombre/california is, its a gradient, natural (dark) at the top and bleached (light) at the bottom Looks more or less like this, particularly the left image: http://25.media.tumblr.com/1fcbf23f6262e23a9ab7ffc9e4d90c3d/tumblr_mgmi…
Just I just keep my hair the way it is and tie it in a bun for work? Business during the day and party at night? I know this is really mundane and most people don't give a shit but this BB is kinda known for its conservative dress code. I'm also female in case you didn't pick up on that yet.
You're female, so nobody will care about your hair length.
Other lengths may matter.
Keep your hair down. As far as color goes, I don't care whether its red, blond, brown, black, ect. as it looks natural.
Black hair advice (Originally Posted: 05/19/2015)
This summer I am embarking on an internship at a large investment bank as a Summer Analyst in Technology.
I have thick hair currently styled in a high top (think Fresh Prince). I realise this is probably too indie for the conservative banking world and so I am looking for advice on how my hair should be styled.
What is an acceptable haircut? How long can I grow it out?
Just in case it is relevant I was interviewed with this same haircut.
It's a lot more casual for the tech division in my experience so you should be fine especially since you got an offer with that cut.
Fresh Prince is probably fine, Kid from Kid n Play is probably too much. Honestly, I wouldn't worry about it too much - the fact that you are even thinking about it means that you'll likely be fine.
Go bald.
Just let your soul glow! Just let it shine through. Just let your soooulll baby feel oh so silky smooth. Just let it shine through, yea. Just let your soouuuul glooow, whooo! Soul-Glo.
jheri curl, man. bring it back
You gotta keep it like that man
I had the same problem before I went bald, you'll miss it when it's gone. just keep it neat and you'll be straight. somewhere between military and nerlens noel
Ladies.....hair length. (Originally Posted: 01/31/2008)
How long is too long? What's a good length? I obviously don't want to come across as a goldilocks type...but hate cutting my hair too short.
Waist length is fine--anything longer and it becomes a bit strange and hard to take care of. Short hair suits plenty of women but keep your style conservative (for work). The best length is to have shoulder length hair if you don't want it to be too short.
Waist length? Holy jesus that's way longer than 'fine.'
I'd say around shoulder-length at most. Should be fairly conservative.
What if you keep it tied up or pulled back?
It's probably okay then if its pulled up.
A little past your shoulders. Remember, you still want to look good. Short hair works on virtually ZERO women.
In my not expert opinion, short hair doesn't work on ANYONE, male or female, especially male, I would argue. I'm a guy, I cringe at the prospect of going bald, or short hair for that matter. But I have a particular obsession with hair. If I start thinning, I'm getting implants. I refuse to grow old. I wish I could stop the freaking aging process at about....25 years old. Just stay 25 forever. If I could I totally would.

short hair doesn't work on men? look around man, you're in the minority

Except for bulldykes. Works great on bulldykes.
agree with Mark, short hair looks terrible on women. at least shoulder length, but pref. longer imo
There are plenty of women who look good only with short hair--long hair just doesn't suit them. What is up with men's fascination with long hair?
They like running their fingers through it.
Mine used to be really long, like to my waist and then I cut it to just below shoulder length. While it does look more professional (as per my boss), I want the men to notice. I think I'm going to grow it out to boob length.

Waist length is creepy and hair is usually pretty dirty. id keep it shoulder, maybe 1-2 in. longer than shoulder length, nothing more.
I confused waist length with mid back. Don't ask.
I prefer it shaved
Well things here can be pretty casual--girls actually wear jeans to work (and by work, I'm talking about IBD etc) and I heard of a case where one showed up to work in a denim miniskirt, white tights and white boots with little tassels on them. She wasn't in HR--she was in PWM, but standard HR attire is jeans and dirty tennis shoes. So one would get away with waist-length hair. Personally, I think the way the women dress here can be a little over the line (I mean--jeans? Come on!) but try telling them that.
My point is why go out of your way to look 20 years older? You have 20 years to look older. You're only 23 once.
Someone in another thread mentioned putting nair in their hair to create a bald patch. Why? I understand you want to look mature, but you don't want to look retirement age by the time you're 30.

for the generic long hair/short hair debate:
My S/O (shes not exactly my girlfriend nor unimportant enough to be called an FWB - its complicated)...anyway, I digress. So, she recently had naturally black, naturally straight hair that was below her mid-back. Normally she has shoulder length to just below shoulder length hair as do most women, but for the last year or so she just let it grow. I have to say I thought the length was beautiful, not at all creepy and it most certainly wasnt unkempt. Hygiene is almost always a matter of the individual in question. The worst thing I ever heard anybody say about it was from her, when complaining that it took so long to dry.
She asked me to go w/ her to get it cut over the weekend (two 1 sec snips) and now her hair is very short (she gave the length away to a leukemia charity - so proud of her). I mean super short, almost boyish Id describe it (btw, never use that phrase/tone gents - she got p*ssed at me for saying that - even if it is their decision, theyre still a little sensitive about it). The haircut looks great, very stylish, bangs etc. Now as to whether I like it? Shes still beautiful to me, but honestly, like most guys, I prefer it a little longer. She asked and I told. I agree w/ atropolation - men do like to run their fingers through it. I think as well, unconsciously short hair has become societally masculine and thus hard to overcome when in use for most women (myself included). I also think that its so hard to execute b/c it gives such an intense focus on the face that you need beauty AND the right shape for it to look great...which could have helped popularize it, but to be frank, nature hasnt been that abundantly generous.
Now because this is recent and personal to me, I will add that all of this is just my two cents. Please dont knock it.
