Laid off analyst still unemployed
Been laid off and it has been 5 months and I have yet to nail anything down. I was in a Capital Markets Group at a BB in NYC and it has been very difficult for me to get the next gig. Anybody else experiencing the same thing? I have had a bunch of final rounds but have been unable to land an offer and am curious if being laid off makes it more difficult. I have interviewed across PE funds, Hedge funds, IB's and strategy roles.
I am also trying to move to London and was curious if anybody knows about the process with regards to sponsorship (I am a US citizen). Any wisdom or guidance would help, really down in the dumps here.
ogofnyc, you need to figure out why you are getting dinged in the final round. If you make it to the final round, you are clearly capable of doing the job, but there is something preventing you from getting an offer.
Thanks for the advice, appreciate it. Most of the headhunters that I have dealt with provided me with feedback that they received directly from the client and have said that the firm "liked me", but it was just a matter of them finding the perfect fit with someone else. I suspect that they worry about my Capital Markets background and prefer to go with an M&A, industry or LevFin person. I even got dinged by a credit fund in the final round because i didn't have any ties to the west coast. They even said I had "excellent character" and that I did a great job on the case study but preferred a local candidate. At this point, I just think I'm cursed.
How long were you in your previous role for?
Have you considered moving to a Fortune 500? How about hitting up your banking contacts?
Did you end up winning something?
Work in PE now
If you have some time, you should type up a recap of what you went through to secure your job in PE. There are plenty of unemployed analysts who could use that help.
Plenty of employed analysts who could use it too. Ditto that it would be great to hear the full story.
It would be great if you could post your story once you get a chance.
