Lateral Offer Ask for More?
So i recently got a verbal for what guess could be considered a lateral of sorts and will be talking to people soon about money, essentially a boutique to a BB. Anyway the job is for a 2nd year analyst which I know what they make, would you still ask for more than that amount in hopes to land there or potentially get more?
I'd probably ask for like 95 I wonder what if you asked for the 6 digits im sure someone here has done it
Bump need more answer since I'll have call today
Do you have some sort of unique experience that other 2nd yr analysts don't? If no, then I would not.
Associate Lateral Salary Negotiations/Raise (With former/potential future group) (Originally Posted: 09/11/2013)
Hello All,
I've worked ~2 years as an analyst and looking to lateral to another firm at an associate level and am still not 100% decided on whether I will take the position. It would be great to hear some insight on the following.
What is the best way to approach my current employer in regards to my offer and possibly matching or beating it? What is the usual raise amount for an employer that is offering you an offer?
And should it happen, should I expect my potential employer to go higher? I understand salaries arent flexible at the analyst level, but wanted to gauge how much wiggle room there may be at the associate level.
I don't think you know what lateral means...
Hahaha
Apologies...I meant job change/promotion
reduced base salary for lateral offer into BB IBD - bad idea to ask for higher base? (Originally Posted: 09/07/2013)
So I finished my first year in S&T at a BB and have an offer to lateral to GS and start as a first year analyst in ibd, which is fine by me because I do not expect to start as a 2nd year without any prior banking experience. I got my base bumped to 80 6 months into my current role, and have been on a 2nd year analyst base for a while now, but if I were to accept the gs offer, I would go back to 70.
If you guys were in my shoes, would you try to negotiate to keep your base at 80? It's not really a huge deal for me, because I do not want to make career decisions over 10k, but was wondering if it is even appropriate to bring this issue up to HR...the reason I have been thinking about it is because if i were to transfer internally at my current BB to IBD and start as a first year, my base would STILL remain 80, and I would be due for a base increase to 90 next feb, which is why the thought of asking gs to keep my base same came up....any feedback is appreciated..thanks
The real question is do you prefer to be in IB over S&T?
You're coming in as a first year. You should expect to be paid as one. As you know, analyst programs are highly structured.
