Lateraling to Toronto

Hi,

Long time lurker, first time poster. I'm about to start my second year at a BB in London. I'm a European citizen (German) but hold a post grad work permit in Canada. I'd like to make a move to Toronto and possibly work in banking there but I'm not too familiar with the recruiting dynamics. How feasible do you think this move is? Would it be best to try an office transfer or rather lateral to a local player? Are they open to hiring from outside of the US/Canada?

I've seen an associate from JPM move from Frankfurt to Toronto so it's definitely doable. If your BB has an opening, definitely go for it. If not, you can always try to lateral to a Canadian bank. Should probably reach out to local bankers first so they understand your motivations to move, but it's not unheard of for US and EU bankers to move back to Canada.

I'm In Toronto and work with most of the banks in the city. Obviously most of the bankers here are Canadian, but I've seen quite a few bankers from Europe and the US (more from Europe).

Can't provide insight on what that process looks like or the likely hood it works out for you, just wanted to confirm it's possible.

If you have any other questions feel free to shoot me a PM.
