Leave CPA off resume?
Looking for some solid advice..
Should I leave CPA off my resume?
My undergrad major was accounting. I then worked in audit and became a licensed CPA. I will be starting my MBA soon at a top 15 school. I would like to pursue the following post-mba jobs: consulting (strategy), corporate strategy, and rotational leadership positions. I don't want to be stereotyped / pigeonholed... which I have experienced to some extent already.
I think you should leave it on. Some of the best bankers I've met are CPAs. Shows you are comfortable in that space.
MBA helps rebrand, but I think you'll still get credit for valuable skills as a CPA. I think the roles you mentioned would look favourably on that background.
The CPA is a very valuable designation, I know many executives who are in AM, PE, VC, HF, & IB who have their CPA. I assume the CPA's I work with know what they are talking about because they have their license.
I would for sure leave it on! Once you get your MBA & have a story why you want to move away from accounting, the CPA will be a valuable asset to your career.
