Leaving a consulting job for grad school only to get back into consulting... Your thoughts?

I am 2.5 years out of college and have spent the past 18 months consulting at Grant Thornton. I have thoroughly enjoyed my time consulting and really like my current job. At the same time, I still have things in life I want to accomplish (trilingualism, international work experience, broader European network) and am considering quitting my job to pursue a masters in Europe (note: in the EU, my masters program is a target and has BCG, Mck, AtK, and Deloitte as corporate sponsors. In the US, i do not believe my program would be considered a target school). The end goal is to end up at a higher level than I already am and at a "better" firm.

Assuming a hierarchy of business analyst, consultant, senior consultant, manager, etc. I am currently a couple months away from being a consultant. As such, my goal is to come back to the states after this 2 year masters and be at a MBB or big 4 consulting firm at at least a consultant level.

The two points I'd like to get better guidance on are 1) understanding how possible or likely this goal is, what it depends on, or what I can do to better my chances and 2) if leaving a job a job and industry I really enjoy with the goal of simply rejoining is a smart / dumb / risky idea.

See comment in your other post about the likelihood of your path forward, but regarding whether this is a stupid idea........hard to say. Sounds like you are trying to do it at low cost/free, so at least you won't be incurring a big debt load. If you enjoy the time getting the degree and it's a good program, I don't think it's dumb. Worst case scenario there is that you took a 2 year vacation........there are worse things in life. Odds are, it will open some doors down the road

Thanks for posting on both of my threads! Yes, the double threads is an indication of desperate need for better guidance :)

Just 2 quick follow up questions: 1. Would studying abroad for a semester at a more prestigious EU university help me at all? I would have the chance to spend a semester at ESADE, IE, HEC Paris, or IMD. 2. So let's just say that taking this route does make me "tainted" in the eyes of MBB. What about interviewing into a mid tier or big 4 consulting firm? Do you think these firms are more "open" to unconventional paths?

Thanks again,
