Is this actually possible? A guy in another article to this said that in order to reach those income levels you would have to work 40 hours at McDonalds and approximately 35-40 hours at another job, based on minimum wage levels.
The funny thing is that a ton of people are saying that it is inhuman for someone to have to work 60-70, or even 75 hours. What do the rest of you 100 hour monkeys think of this?

Seems somewhat accurate. And that's not even counting food/groceries. Oh lawd.
In reality though, that's life. If the peak of your abilities is dipping french fries into grease, you will be compensated accordingly. This is why people graduate, go to college, and work odd jobs throughout so by the time they have all of these expenses mentioned, they will be generating a higher income.

You force these places to increase wages and they will simply automate. Honestly, I wish this would happen. No more forgetting the bread in my Cosi order. No more attitude when you order something near closing. No more people not giving a fuck.
Minimum wage jobs are supposed to be a gateway. What is sad is that if someone even shows the slightest interest, intelligence and determination they will be promoted fast. These jobs have 100-200% turn over and the bar to get promoted is incredibly low.
IMO, TNA is right on this one. I think there was a statistic cited somewhere that only 20% of households that have a person earning minimumn wage are below the poverty line. The vast majority of them are teenagers or a working spouse that is trying to supplement the household's income. It's not really meant to be a full time job to provide for a family.
If you were serious about working a minimum wage job in food service, go work for Chipotle. Apparently they promote the "restauranters" (manages) from the basic line staff - and the median wage pay for them is around 96,000 (does not require a HS education even). Makes sense that they can do this since CMG isn't a franchise and all stores are company owned.
What are you getting at? I worked shitty minimum wage jobs through high school and early college. I wasn't really looking to be assistant manager of Dairy Queen at the time. I just wanted my $10 and commissions and to get the fuck out and not think about work off the clock.
Are you saying that nobody who puts in effort should be making minimum?
On one hand, I agree. I only worked two minimum wage jobs and always left for upgrades. My last part time job was like $16 + commissions. But on the other hand, I'm sure that there are hard-working people working shitty jobs who just aren't that bright or who have any number of situations in their lives preventing them from moving up.
You are not supposed to take care of a family or live with amenities from minimum wage, that's why it is the bare minimum. It's meant for elderly and teenagers. If you can't earn more money by taking on new responsibility, developing abilities, or finding a job requiring more expertise then it's time to take a look in the mirror. The people complaining about this don't know how easy it is to make more than minimum wage.
Work literally anywhere. Be competent. Your salary will increase.
things are still tough and its easy to just dismiss these people by saying "get another job". hell, college grads from top schools can't get jobs (granted they majored in things like psych).
There is a difference between getting a good job that utilizes your skillset, which is difficult right now for many college grads/experienced workers, and obtaining a job above minimum wage. Finding a great job in your field to launch a career might take months if not longer.
Getting a job above mimimum wage, or at worst case finding a job on minimum wage with room for advancement, literally takes a week. It is the fault of the individual, not the system, if they can't do better financially for themselves
Still, minimum wage in the U.S is pretty horrendous.
