Websites / Sources to stay current on markets
Monkeys-
What sources / websites / articles do you find most reliable to stay current on specific market news / deals / stories / all things CRE (LA, NY, SF, etc.).
I usually like to stick with Real Estate Alert, Real Deal, Bisnow, etc - curious to see if there are any other sources you guys like to use that helps sifts through the noise.
RCA is straight $
Second bisnow and RE Alert.
I also check Globe ST, get a few different blasts from NREI and SmartBrief, and as a retail guy I find the ICSC blasts very helpful
Green Street Advisors if you can get access to it. I don't but I've only heard good things about it.
I second Green Street. Leans more macro, but they do some fantastic trend identification. Very good balance of data and intuitive insight that's easily passed down to clients/investors.
Throw Curbed into the mix as your tabloid-esque insight into high profile developments in each market. I think its a great resource to see which projects and neighborhoods the locals are getting excited about. You won't get too much in the way of hard facts and figures however...
Do you have a subscription through your firm?
My current firm does not, I don't think it is quite cost effective given our size and multitude of other subscriptions (costar, r a, argus etc...). However I still listen in on their webinars and get the occasional report passed along. You should atleast signup for their newsletters.
REJournals is a great source for CRE related news in the Midwest.
Looking for site that has all markets (Originally Posted: 08/04/2009)
I'm looking for a website that has real time numbers/charts for all the stock exchanges in every country around the world and for all commodities.
Does this exist? If not what does one suggest if I'm looking for information on stock exchanges in third world/emerging markets?
Thx
Other than Thomson One and the such I'm not sure about stock exchanges. But if you want a solid free site with commodity prices (in almost every currency) and warehouse levels, you can check out www.infomine.com
Hope this helps.
I may feel charitable later on.
What do I need?
Well I want information on stock exchanges in countries like Sri Lanka. And I'd like to have one common source for information for all these types of countries, rather than having to visit multiple sources to get this information
And you want this real time? I'm sure you're not going to be able to get it free (or even cheap). I'd look in to Thompson One or Bloomberg - not sure how their coverage is of third-world markets, but that's my best guess for where you'll find the info in one place.
nvm, not real time
anything that is free?
BizJournals for whichever city you want to stay updated on. It is not CRE specific, but it has a lot of content nonetheless.
Resource on markets & instruments (Originally Posted: 11/06/2011)
I am looking for a concise resource(book) on the building blocks: instruments, markets, and typical ways people try to trade and use the various products available. Any suggestions? Thanks
search amazon
If I wasn't such a cheap ass, I would have bought this already: http://www.amazon.com/Financial-Instruments-Derivatives-Alternative-ebo…
Biznow, Commercial Observer, The Real Deal (Literally every one goes on this). You'll be find with these especially for commercial real estate.
I also agree on green street advisors. Though it may cost money, they are in the top of the biz.
