Looking to get into Finance, have a BA in biology, switched major to accounting Fall 2015 and now looking into Finance
Hi, I'm 25 years old and have a BA in biology I got 3 years ago from Wayne State. I have switched over to the business rather than science side and have chosen Accounting as a major at a community college. I do not like the detail oriented, redundant tasks of the class so far (1st course in financial accounting) and like more of the overall picture, trend analysis, projection, and forecasting that finance is known for. However, I do not know where to go in my direction of finding a school and whether or not an MBA in finance would help me find a job in Michigan (as far as I have read, most jobs are in Chicago and New York). Where should I go (school wise I have been thinking of Wayne State's MBA program)? and what should I go for (degree wise I am looking at MBA with concentration in Finance)? So far I have been reading about U of M and MSU as good schools but location is a factor and I must work and go to school to help my family. Also, I think I may not do well in this first accounting course bringing down my GPA quite a bit (aiming for a C) while I will do good in Marketing (prob upper B or A- range) once this winter semester is over for 2016. So my GPA is going to take a bit of a hit but I have plenty of semesters (50+ credits before getting a masters degree) to build it up again. Is there any shot at getting into finance with what I have described about myself and the inhibiting factors such as distance and time (working full time)? Are there any alternatives I may get into if I want a career in analyzing numbers, trends, projecting/forecasting? If there are people here from MI or who have lived in MI and have went to school there please feel free to chime in, it would be much appreciated. Thank you
