LSE Fin & Econ vs OXFORD MFE
Hey folks,
I've been shadowing the forum for a while and I need some help on an issue that has not been asked before.
I'm a senior Economics student at a target European University and I've admitted to both the MSc in Financial Economics at Oxford and the MSc in Finance & Economics at LSE. They're very similar programmes and I don't know which one to choose.
I want to get into IB or consulting and eventually break into private equity in Europe (if the EU is still a thing 5 years from now, that is).
Pros of LSE:
-it's in London so crazy networking opportunities available;
Pros of Oxford:
-brand
For the rest, I believe they are pretty much the same.
My weakness:
-Limited job experience. Also, I understand that the British job market has been a mess for graduates since Brexit.
My strengths:
-Fluent in 5 languages (Italian, English, French, Spanish, Portuguese)
-4.0 GPA
-760 GMAT
Questions for you:
-Given my limited work experience, would LSE be better just because of its location? Or does Oxford name matters more at the beginning of a career? And what more down the road?
-Which uni has a better reputation in Asia, especially in Singapore (which I believe is the only place I can work without knowing an Asian language)? I want to do PE in Europe, so Europe seems to be a no brainer, but I want to hedge against the possibility of the EU being dismantled, so I want to have a plan B.
While LSE offers you the chance to network with people down the street, Oxford does have its allure considering the brand and the connected network. To be honest, I think you are best served by speaking to people who did the respective course or take a tour of each university (LSE doesn^t really have a campus) and base your decision on that. Any chance of financial aid for either?
I think in Asia you'll be fine with both tbh. Oxford obviously is a Top 5 university worldwide, so may again have some brand advantage.
