M&A/ lev fin risk to PE?
Hi everyone, really hope you can give a bit of advice.
I'm an N1 at an good-average BB (think UBS, BAML, Barcap) in London doing m&a and lev fin risk, essentially lbo and acquisition risk analysis. A large about of the job is understanding the models behind the transactions, providing input into the assumptions etc but our team does not own the modelling process.
My question is this: how hard will it be to move to a top PE shop in a couple of years? With my current role do i have any chance of going MF and them eventually top b-school? Am
I already too many rungs of the ladder down the chain? Do I need to heavily angle towards M&a to have any chance?
Any input useful!
Thanks

People go from M&A or
People go from M&A or Leveraged Finance to MFs, not from back office roles in those groups to MFs. Its obviously going to be difficult but you need to make the jump to front office as soon as possible.
Some levfin groups do not own
Some LevFin groups do not own the modelling, so am I in a much different position to them?
Given that you work in risk
Given that you work in risk rather than IBD you essentially stand no chance at a "top fund". You should try to move internally to an actual M&A or coverage group ASAP.
