Market research vs. Ops vs. PMG for the summer. HELP

I am a junior at a non-target evaluating internship offers. My goal is to work in strategy consulting and I did interview at some top firms but nothing materialized.

I am now entertaining a variety of different positions and my objectives are to do...
1. something this summer that will give me a better crack at strat. consulting,
2. something that will have good exit opps (prestigious FT job, MBA placement).

Here are my options.

  1. A Market Research group at a major financial services firm. This is a small group (10-15 ppl) that is considering the internal consulting arm of the company. FT offer seems unlikely (not sure though). I know I was competing with some serious target school kids for this spot.

  2. Goldman ops. There has been a lot of discussion on ops in this forum. I guess I like the security from working at BB and the evasive hope that I may be able to get something better for FT. Goldman brand equity is also appealing.

3.* BlackRock pmg. Had a superday, I am unsure about getting an offer. Don't really want to consider this right now, general thoughts are welcome.

Please bounce around any ideas or thoughts you have about my situation. I am leaning towards the market research internship mainly because it will be more meaningful work.

thanks! do you know what type of weight experience market research holds in relation to getting a job in strategy consulting.

Also, the market research position may not come with a FT offer, is this a big concession?
