Market Sizing Question: Fish Taco Food Truck

Hi everyone,

I'm preparing for a final round interview tomorrow. I have gone through some market sizing questions, but one in particular is giving me some trouble. The question is: "Assess the market size for a fish taco food truck." I'm unclear whether I'd give this answer in total number of customers or total sales for the food truck. Additionally, how would you break this down? The answer would depend greatly on where you put the food truck and what time of day it operates.

Best Response

Total # of potential customers. I would break down each time frame separately, then add them all up.

Since a food truck can move, figure out the size of the downtown office worker market from 11-1pm on M-Fri. They would probably have to be within realistic walking distance. Maaaybe you could get people for a dinner rush if there is a tourist trap in the city, but that may be optimistic, be sure to call that out.

Then, add any nightlife district market from 11-2am Th.-Sat. Add in realistic projections about special weekend events (festivals, work events, etc.). Add it all up and you have your market size.
