Married Goldman Sachs bigwig arrested for rape

http://www.nydailynews.com/new-york/married-goldman-sachs-bigwig-arrest…

Anybody know this charmer?

Also, if he is acquitted, will GS keep him on or dump him to avoid fallout?

I blame the woman.

I am inclined to agree with you on this. What was a 20 years old doing at a naked pool party anyway? I blame her parents.

As to Lee's future at GS, it really depends on how much of a rainmaker he has been for the firm. If he was bringing bread to the table then I doubt GS cares much for this incident, unless he gets convicted and thrown into prison. On the other hand, if GS didn't see much value in him then this would be a very convenient subterfuge for them to get rid of him without paying severance.

At the end of the day It is all about dollars and sense.

I was mostly joking. But seriously though, I would put money on it being a case of 'Girl gets drunk and fucks. Girl regrets. Girl cries rape.'

Or maybe that was her plan all along and she just wants monies.

Why would some big shot rape someone? Isn't that for losers who can't get laid or need to feel powerful over somebody?

People like you are the reason most rapes go unreported. You should probably grow the fuck up.

I wonder if she was an SA? Maybe going to this party was a last-ditch effort to secure a return offer...

In all seriousness, this guy is innocent till proven guilty. Still, as we've seen with the public reaction's to a certain insurance underwriter's acquittal in Florida, innocence in a court of law does not equal innocence in the court of public opinion (the least rational of all courts).

My guess is he'll probably leave quietly and find work elsewhere.

You don't prefer your pool parties with naked 20 year olds?

Doesn't appear to be much info available on the situation. I don't think we'll ever know what really happened. The people really grill the guy in the comments section on the basis that he works for GS.

My guess, based on no facts whatsoever, is that his future at GS will depend on how strong his relationship is with management. If his fellow MDs or the board hates him, this is an easy way to cut him loose. Otherwise, he may get to stick around. The real problem will be his ability to continue to bring in business. Banking is obviously relationship driven and based on trust. If he showed up at a pitch would you award him the business over equally competent competitors? Personally, I'd likely take my business elsewhere or at least ask that he be removed from the deal team.

Pretty much agree with this. The guy had better get these charges dropped. Otherwise, in a role and firm where reputation matters, GS could easily engineer ways to give him the flick.

Not guilty of anything yet. Give him a chance in court before we talk about being blackballed from the finance world.

The question I was answering is whether or not the mere accusation will hinder his ability to work in the finance world. I wholeheartedly believe in the concept of Innocent until Proven Guilty.

A rape kit should tell what happened. We'll see. (I've seen too many SVU episodes hahahahah).

What the fuck is a rape kit?

Just remember the Duke scandal - even though they were falsely accused, their reps were ruined and they can never get back that one or so year. Obviously there are cases of both innocent and guilty, but better to let all the facts settle than to point fingers immediately.

Calm down.

Aside from the accusations, the fact that it was at a naked pool party in the Hamptons at a Goldman Sachs banker's mansion certainly doesn't help the credibility or public perception of bankers / finance.

Haha, I mean yeah it sounds awesome. However it does maintain that negative conotation of bankers and debauchery, etc.

The MD in concern will be fine IF he wins the case; it's not like he has advertising contracts that he could lose. Does anyone remember what happened to Roethlisberger?

First of all Signore Bateman I have not actually started my jail sentence yet so I am still free to share my views to the world. Such as...

Naked pool parties are bellissimi (great). During my time as prime minister, I have hosted many in my life and have invited women representing a diversity of both age and ethnicity. Much fun was had and if you don't like that feel free to jump off the leaning tower of pisa.

Secondly, victim blaming is wrong and, Signore RustyFork, you are treading on the edge of it. While my GS MD friend must be presumed innocent until proven guilty, it is also wrong lump the same accusations on the 20 year old girl. Let due process take its course and avoid turning this into a "team zimmerman/team trayvon" thing. Shit was pathetic and represented the eternal stupidity of this nation.

Also, rusty, I don't understand your whole "pro/con" thing. If the MD is proven innocent, what would he be going to jail for?

I'm saying he could easily be convicted while innocent. It happens all the time.

You are all the reason wall street has a bad reputation. Quickly jumping to conclusions such as "probably a set up" or "maybe she wanted a return offer." The sad thing is, you would expect monkeys to be better people coming into the industry but you guys are poison.

As long as this thread is getting revived...

As opposed to your quick arrival at the conclusion that all rape/sexual assault allegations must be true?

The last few years have shown anyone paying attention that many, many times, high-profile cases like this are indeed the result of false accusations.

"When you stop striving for perfection, you might as well be dead."

If anyone was still wondering, he was found not-guilty but he resigned from Goldman while the trial was going on. Looks like he was actually a key guy for Goldman and raked in a lot of deals... He was the Global Head of Structured Equity Group within ECM, where Goldman was #1 in during his tenure. Seems to be doing fine now, as he founded a fin tech company a couple years back.
