Masters in Finance (MSF) from Boston College

I have got an admit in Carroll School of Management of Boston College for MSF with a merit scholarship and assistantship. Should I accept it.

My Profile:
GRE - 331
Undergrad - BCOM(H) from Delhi University, India
Work ex - Few months in a big four, 2 years as the financial head of a startup and now working in a Boutique Investment Bank.

This year I only applied to Boston College. I am inclined to decline this offer and apply next year to much better colleges. What would you advice?

BC is a great school and program. I assume you are talking about the quantitative track? It is pretty new, but I like the direction they are going. Should be a great experience and provide plenty of FO opportunity if that is what you are looking for.

As a general aside, I would just urge you to assess what your goals are and whether this degree will actually help you get there. Be realistic, critical, and cynical - good luck.

"They are all former investment bankers that were laid off in the economic collapse that Nancy Pelosi caused. They have no marketable skills, but by God they work hard."

TNA- I'm actually referring to the 1year non-quant track.

CountryUnderdog- Thanks. I'm certain that I want to pursue a MSF program. BC's program looks excellent and I particularly like the location.

TNA, the have a FT program during the day. Not sure how long ago it started, but it should be in at least year two I would imagine. My buddy goes there and applied around a year ago today.

Ok cool. They had the PT program for the longest time and I knew they started a quant track. Glad they have a day program though as some students were apprehensive about night time program. I'll see if I can find some updated placements or something.

Off-hand, I believe (warning, hearsay) Fidelity, Liberty Mutual, TD Bank, Wellington, Oracle, and HSBC recruit there. Not sure exactly what positions, but finance-related. Believe HSBC was portfolio mgmt.

Program has solid placements. Boston is a good city with internship opportunities. Not sure what else to say about the program. Boston/NYC placements. Decent enough brand.

I'm trying to set up a call with the admissions director. The woman I knew left last year.

Well you might want to ask if they have a day time program. I'll probably send an email as well to see because part of my draw was b/c of the internship opportunities during the day since classes were at night. Not that classes during the day ends all hope but I know an internship while at MIT was pretty much impossible.

And just looking at their schedule for all the MF classes in the spring (http://www.bc.edu/content/bc/schools/csom/graduate/courses/gsomspring.h…) the classes are mostly at 7 with some at 4:30. They do offer a full time option but from what I could gather, they are once a week during the evening/night.

I'll find out for sure, but others have indicated that there is a FT day MSF. Most likely piggy backs off the FT MBA program. Kind of shocking that someone would take two years off to attend BC for a full time MBA during the day. Not sure about the ROI with that.
