Math/Econ from Emory or FE from GTech

So, I'm a sophomore at Emory with a 3.4 and an applied math major (basically done). I have two options for the rest of my college career. Stick with Emory and get an Econ double major and graduate with the rest of my class (2012) or go to Georgia Tech and get another BS in Financial Engineering through a joint program and graduate circa 2014. I would have applied to the Business school at Emory, but I'm not too confident about getting in because stuffing an entire math major in 2 years has basically shot my GPA to its current level. I'll be applying anyways, but I'm assuming my main choices would be a Math/Econ (Econ is considered an easy major at Emory) or go to Georgia Tech and get a BS in Economic Decision Analysis from the School of Industrial Engineering, which is considered the best in the country. I would do love to do it, but I don't know if the extra two years are worth it, especially since my Applied Math and Econ degree would cover a lot of the same stuff. What do you guys recommend?

I'd like a job in IBD or ideally PE, but don't mind doing Quant stuff, as long as I'm not pigeon-holed. Is this realistic or am I expecting too much?

It doesn't really matter what your major is with such a low GPA. Assuming you end with a 3.5 (at least), the math/econ combo from Emory (a decent school) will beat the FE degree from GT (not a decent school).

Last I checked Citadel and a number of other top notch shops recruited from GT.

WTF? Ga Tech ranks significantly higher than Emory. Ga Tech ranks no. 27 globally, and Emory is in the 60s I believe. By what criteria do you deduce that Emory is "decent" and that Ga Tech is "not decent"?

My mistake. Still GA Tech is not a bad school, some of the smartest people I know go there and I believe it's a top 10 world engineering school.

Well, as far as banking goes I would think there are more Emory kids; I think Goldy is now recruiting there.

However, with trading I'd guess GA Tech has more. 2sigma, RenTec, Citadel, and other hedge funds recruit from Tech and not from Emory. I'd think Tech produces more traders. Do you think otherwise?

All front, out of the people I've known. Of course, I haven't made it a point to make a study of the matter. I would just guess that more actual trading jobs, and especially non agency trading jobs go to GA tech grads than Emory, which is consistent with what I've seen personally. That's not to say it's gospel, it's just what I've seen. Tech's grads are infinitely more quantitatively inclined, on average, and are likely more cut out for trading so it kind of makes sense. Don't you think? Or do you think liberal arts majors tend to make better traders than quantitatively oriented students?

LOL! Nice, and ad hom attack. I guess that means you can't defend your premise. :D I'm not defending anything, much less religiously so. I just told you what my observations were. If you don't like them, don't whine, cry, and stomp your feet at me about it. I'm just telling you what I have seen and what I am aware of. That is, that more HFs and buyside roles going to GT grads, and more banking jobs going to Emory grads. That's just what I've seen personally. I made a point to say that it wasn't gospel and that I wasn't swearing by it, just sharing what I've seen. So why don't you get that diaper rash taken care of and actually share your own observations instead of trying to take jabs at people who don't agree with you.

Reread my posts you fucking idiot I've not been attacking Georgia tech I've been saying I've never met a Georgia tech kid on the street and the other poster wrote about them recruiting for back office not front fucking office and I'm a bit hard pressed to think that ga tech is being pulled alongside caltech and mIT kids and people tend to not recruit for both back and front office at the same school . Furthermore your rankings are out of some useless British paper for global rankings do you quote the financial times for MBA rankings too?
