May have gone overboard, what's the next move
I am going to be a junior and looking to go into IBD soon but am desperately trying to get an internship for this fall. I have a rather rigid class schedule so I don't think I'd be able to work for a larger bank so I've been boutique hunting. I found a relatively small (50 or so people) investment group that specializes in commercial real estate, but the position (for an analyst) would still be technical and great on my resume.
So I applied for the position by e-mailing their HR department like they said, then I went on LinkedIn and started browsing through the company and the people who work there. This is where I think I went a little too far, I sent requests to a couple people who work there basically just saying I was student interested in finance and their firm in particular. One of them accepted immediately but didn't say anything back.
Should I follow up with another message and/or e-mail to this person trying to get a meeting with him and act really interested in commercial real estate? I don't want it to seem like I'm asking him for a job (for this fall only) when really that's all I want because I don't really care otherwise about commercial real estate.
Really not sure if I'm over reacting or how I should handle this without coming off badly but I feel like I need to act soon.

I do the same thing when I apply to positions, personally I've gotten a great response. The last time I did this I messaged 6 people and none responded, but I got an e-mail from HR the next week saying one of them forwarded my resume to her and that she wanted to speak with me in regards to the position.
I don't think you went too far, but if they didn't respond sending another message might be slightly over the line, don't want to bug them. If you saw they accepted then maybe a short follow up saying you saw they accepted might not be a bad thing.
@jmoney2405 What do you usually say to them when you message them? And is it through LinkedIn or e-mail, I was thinking since those LinkedIn invites are such short messages I would just send him an e-mail since I have it now.

@KingCudi Maybe I mis-understood, I send them an In-Mail through linked-In, I don't actually ask them to connect. This is basically a message over Linked-in that depending on how your account is setup will send the message to their e-mail or to their Linked-In user. I don't normally connect with them unless we start a dialogue.
@jmoney2405 Oh I see, no I don't do the paid subscription (or pay for anything on there) so I just connect right away. I'd still like to know an example of something you might say to someone who currently works at a place you applied to though if you don't mind.
@manyhenny Do you have any suggestions for phrasing this as well?
This is fine, imo. Just target specific people and not just mass-message everyone in that firm on LinkedIn.

I usually go with this same approach as well. I believe the response is different between each individual. I have received some great replies, assistance and even interviews. On the other hand I have also been stone wall ignored.
