MBA Class of 2015 - Houston

Hi folks,

I recently joined WSO and thought I'd ask if any monkeys here are planning to attend an MBA program in Houston this Summer/Fall 2013? If so, which school? Part-time/Full-time?

So I take it you don't want/can't wait to here back from Rice for their final decision? Congrats on Tulane but attending Rice on campus is a huge plus from the the people I've met in the MBA for Professionals program.

UT has a 10 month MSF program that I'm looking into. A&M is starting up an EMBA based in Houston, although it doesn't look very schedule friendly. Sam Houston State in Huntsville (about an hour north of Conroe) has an EMBA with an emphasis in Banking & Financial Institutions that is run by a guy who use to sit on the Dallas Fed. I'm looking into it, seems cost effective, and I figure you can always do a CFA, or at least attempt one.

Thanks for your thoughts guys.I am currently in a front office role (not trading, though the goal) for a top 5 oil major, so I really don't plan on dropping that for a full time degree. I am just looking to put the "icing on the cake" per say. @swgator13, Rice rejected me the first time around and now I have been waitlisted, so its bit of a gamble. @Pacman007 what's your reasoning? @TexasMonkey1868 thanks for the feeds, i am currently looking into a part-time finance driven MBA or MSF program in Houston since I don't plan on leaving my current job.

If you're not looking to jump ship then I guess Tulane is fine. I had a buddy who did Tulane's MFin and wasn't too happy he dropped that much $$$ and ended up at a bachelors level job. I would look at the A&M program, A&M is HUGE in oil trading (I work on a major oil companys commercial trading org). I personally just wouldn't mess with Tulane...Rice/UT would be my first choice for PT-MBA if I were staying in Houston then I would look into A&M.

Stay away from Sam Houston..."cost effective" is not the way you should be making your decision. In the worst case scenario, you lose your job your Sam Houston degree looks like shit and you end up applying for bachelors level jobs. Weigh your options based on the size of the alumni in the Energy industry, level of pedigree and then cost measures. Doesn't matter which big shot is teaching, Sam Houston is worth absolutely nothing in Business from my experience.

Choose wisely. Tulane is a decent school and I would consider it if I REALLY wanted a masters NOW but Sam Houston...hell no.
