MBA question - Work in sales and trading

Hi I have a confusing question here. Basically I work in Sales and Trading at BB (already done 1.5 years), but i want to do MC. I have applied to various MCs for the graduate positions and going through interviews. I want to do an MBA to help me in the future with knowledge, promotions and etc. The question is if hypothetically I manage to switch to MC for the graduate position, spend a year doing that, is it possible then to be considered for an MBA, after having done 2 years in S&T and 1 year in consultancy? Will consultancy let me do it straight after one year and pay for me?

thanks

You would most likely be hired as an analyst, i.e. at the same level as a recent college grad. That would mean you would spend at least two years as an analyst, and then assuming you do well and get good reviews, you would be given a return offer contingent on going to b-school or having some kind of significant business experience. If you went to b-school and returned as an associate, the loan would be forgiven over a period of two years or so.

There are gazillions of people having similar profile like yours. MC are the bread and butter applicants of Bschools. More applicants fall into the consultant category than probably any other profile type. As a result, it is also probably more difficult to differentiate yourself as a consultant.

Will consultancy let me do it? Why not, but normally people get a couple of years of experience before they can be believed to rigor themselves in the analysis part of MC.

You can avoid the perception that you’re just trying to get your ticket punched by being explicit about how you intend to utilize an MBA to reach your career goals. That’s not to say that you shouldn’t express an interest in returning to consulting. But if you do go down that path, you need to make sure to discuss how you see yourself having an impact on the organization.

so theoretically I may be able to get sponsored after one year in consultancy? i was thinking of applying for MBA now, but after thinking for a bit, theoretically I can actually get MC to pay for it. I know that typically people spend 2 years in MC, but given my 2 years experience in S&T, ideally I d like to spend the least time possible to get doing MBA and then join back at a post MBA role. I want to return back to consutalncy after MBA anyway to get more experience. ideally I would like to spend the least time possible being a grad. :)

thank you for your help guys. another question is if I am instead to spend my more time in S&T, do MBA, will i able to apply directly to consutlancy for post mba positions. or do consultancies hire post mbas mainly from interns? i m looking for MBA to start in January or one year programmes, meaning that I wont have time for an internship.

thank you
