MBB Interview Rejection - just one office or whole firm?

Are rejections for interviews for specific offices or the entire firm? I received an email notice from an MBB saying they're not interviewing me, but HR person who sent it was from a specific office. Does that mean I'm not being considered for all 3 offices I indicated or just that one?

Did the email mention that specific office? After my first round I got an email like that from my first choice office but I got an interview at my 2nd choice a few days later.

No - it seemed like a canned response. I just searched the person's name and he was at a specific office I applied for.

Most likely the whole firm. Recruiters are assigned (by region) to specific schools. Also, the selection process for the first-round interview is firm-wide (applying to a specific US city doesn't better your odds for the first round).

Interesting. I had been wondering if recruiting was regional. So if you're only interested in certain offices, it's still for the whole firm, regardless of how many slots are available at office X?

The one I got (McK) was more like "you're awesome but we've just had too many awesome candidates applying to this office and not many open positions." This was an Asian office btw.

That's the canned McKinsey email. If this was for a US office, whether it was for first round or final round I'm fairly certain you've been rejected by the firm.

I would say it's most likely the entire firm. If you are really itching to reapply soon, I would ask someone in HR to make sure that it's okay. However, I'm pretty sure that the MBB have a one year waiting period before you can reapply. These offices are actually a lot more connected than you might think so applying to several at a time after you've received a rejection could easily land you on a black list. A friend of mine had it happen to him and the firm actually called career services at our school so it turned into a messy situation.
