Meeting people after 6 PM on a Friday in NYC
It just isn't going to happen right?
I'm taking greyhound back to the Midwest tonight at 10 so I have some time in between my last meeting (should end around or before 6).
I understand completely people wanting to get stuff done towards the end of the day in case something comes up so they can leave at a decent time (ha ha..). Putting myself in their shoes, talking to a college kid at 7/8 PM on a Friday probably would not be a priority.
But I was wondering if any of you had luck with scheduling your meetings out to last into the evening (besides with family friends, close friends/contacts, etc).
When trying to schedule a time to meet I usually give morning/afternoon times I am available and say something like "I am available after 6 as well...but I don't want to make you stay late on a Friday" and so on.
I do this so I sound aware that meeting a college kid late on a Friday is not a priority/I don't really expect them to (haha I'm honestly just grateful they responded to my cold email).
I made this thread because I was talking to someone who has turned into a mentor to me (he's in banking now) and he said something like "hell, if someone came all the way from [where I'm from] to see me, I would go out of my way to make sure I can at least talk to them at some point, regardless of time"
So wanted to gauge WSO if it could really happen.
Not really too concerned though, I'm just planning on doing some Christmas shopping and enjoying the city after my meetings are done and before I have to catch the bus back.
Treating this like a business trip though so I want to maximize my day today.
Thanks!!
Haven't got advice for you as I don't have any idea about NYC, but just dropped in to say that I admire your zeal. Good luck.
depends on how close you guys are/how often you've kept in touch. i have a couple alums who wouldn't mind grabbing drinks with me on a friday night, but i've already met them multiple times+they've shown that they like being a mentor to me.
Yes - but please don't talk shop.
Don't do this if you want to talk about the firm at all. If some college grad or analyst wants to talk about the culture, pay, exit opps, etc. on a Friday I will immediately hit the eject button.
Yeah, I wouldn't agree to that. Leave me alone on Friday afternoon.
Are you 21? Just say you have a few extra hours and ask if they want to grab a beer.
Note: Don't do this if it's a cold intro, but for people you've talked to a few times and that seem chill, this is definitely worth a shot
