Meeting with a director of valuation firm. Advice?

Hey everyone,

I recently set up a meeting with a director of a valuation firm (met through his son). My original intent was to meet him and ask for advice and to just see where things went from there. He has since passed on my resume and informed me that the head of the valuation group and the head of HR will be joining us. Any idea on what I could expect?

it can go a lot of different directions, but given HR is involved, you should be ready to do the standard "walk me through your resume" at least initially. Make sure to emphasize any work or research you have done that is related to finance / valuation. After that you may get a few soft technicals to see where you're at. Favorite topics for these guys are things like cost of capital, DCF / multiples / precedent transactions approaches, etc. Lots of good resources on this site for that. Ideally the conversation would turn pretty organically to you having a discussion with the head of the valuation practice; what type of cases do you normally work on? Are these valuations used for independent 3rd party assessments (e.g. transactions or private company valuation), or are they done in a litigation context, etc? How are analysts staffed - one project or multiple (by the way no matter what their answer is to this you should spin it positively)? Try to familiarize yourself with the expert's work in that office - does he focus on certain industries, any newsworthy projects he's worked on etc.

Good luck!
