Mesirow Financial Chicago - Previous experiences?

Does anyone have any experience with Mesirow Financial in Chicago? Specifically the Investment Management Division? I'd be really interested to hear about your experience. How is the culture? What can an entry level analyst expect for base salary/bonus? What kind of exit ops are there?

Really appreciate any help.

Very well known and respected in Chicago. Not as well known outside of Chi, however. The CEO, Jim Tyree, is one of the most prominent people in the city. The firm's culture is based on entrepreneurship. The various divisions act independently from one another. They are well known for the Funds of Funds business (in both PE and HFs). Also, they just built a new headquarters across the street from their old place.

Thanks for the response. Any idea how Mesirow pays?

Consulting side looks quite typical. If you have the option to do IB, you do IB. Pay is lower than average, hours are probably more like 80/wk rather than 100. Deal flow has been doing better each year. Seen them on the other side a few times. Put together solid CIMs compared to some of the other second tier MM IBs in Chi.

Are you looking in Chicago? An old colleague of mine's wife worked there and from what I hear it's a great firm to work for, but you have to keep in mind that it's predominantly consulting. Consulting wasn't for me, but then again many prefer that to banking. If you have any specific questions regarding consulting as opposed to banking shoot me a PM.

Don't know recruiting at Mesirow, but generally speaking your phone interview for a summer position will be mostly fit based. Walk me through your resume, explain what you did during past internships, why banking, do you know what your role as an analyst will be, why x bank etc. Technicals for a summer usually aren't terrible deep. The main questions I would prepare for are...how do the financials statements link/flow, what are the valuation methods used to value a company, and they may ask some other very general question on the valuation methodologies like what are some of the items you would look at when selecting comparables...The interview will not be very technical on modeling as the firm will really want to make sure that you know what you are getting into and will have the stamina to do the job
