Mesirow Financial Chicago - Previous experiences?
Does anyone have any experience with Mesirow Financial in Chicago? Specifically the Investment Management Division? I'd be really interested to hear about your experience. How is the culture? What can an entry level analyst expect for base salary/bonus? What kind of exit ops are there?
Really appreciate any help.
Very well known and respected in Chicago. Not as well known outside of Chi, however. The CEO, Jim Tyree, is one of the most prominent people in the city. The firm's culture is based on entrepreneurship. The various divisions act independently from one another. They are well known for the Funds of Funds business (in both PE and HFs). Also, they just built a new headquarters across the street from their old place.
Thanks for the response. Any idea how Mesirow pays?
Yes, Jim is a big guy locally in Chicago, certainly. The firm has respect locally, but isn't that well known around the country and gets no love from outside the U.S....
Don't know about pay, but i'd be interested to hear as well.
Bump.
Anyone else have info on Mesirow?
Anyone have any insights on their Investment Banking division? Pay/exit ops/culture are all of interest. Long-term goal: MM PE in Chicago.
bump
They're bread & butter is paper, plastics & packaging. Pretty boring IMO, but you can't be too picky these days. Looks like a few have moved on to small PE firms. Base is below street ($50k-$60k), no clue on bonus, sign-on/relocation might be nonexistent (that's the impression I was given).

Can anyone tell me about the how the Firm is regarded on the Street? what the culture is like, how base pay and bonus compare to average?
Really appreciate it.
Good MM shop, but considered to be a tier below Houlihan, Blair, Baird, Lincoln, Harris Williams.
My info is a few years old but hours are long, bonus is below street, salary is street.
Strong in certain niches (e.g. Paper & Packaging).
Mesirow Financial - Consulting side? (Originally Posted: 01/13/2014)
Does anyone have any experience with Mesirow on the consulting side (deal flow/ pay/respect/hours) or IB side (deal flow/ pay/respect/hours)??? Possible summer internship opportunity
Consulting side looks quite typical. If you have the option to do IB, you do IB. Pay is lower than average, hours are probably more like 80/wk rather than 100. Deal flow has been doing better each year. Seen them on the other side a few times. Put together solid CIMs compared to some of the other second tier MM IBs in Chi.
Thanks peinvestor2012!!

Same boat as red08. Any advice/thoughts on the interview process there?

Anyone have any information on this firm? Reputation? Salary. Thank you in advance.
Are you looking in Chicago? An old colleague of mine's wife worked there and from what I hear it's a great firm to work for, but you have to keep in mind that it's predominantly consulting. Consulting wasn't for me, but then again many prefer that to banking. If you have any specific questions regarding consulting as opposed to banking shoot me a PM.

Don't know recruiting at Mesirow, but generally speaking your phone interview for a summer position will be mostly fit based. Walk me through your resume, explain what you did during past internships, why banking, do you know what your role as an analyst will be, why x bank etc. Technicals for a summer usually aren't terrible deep. The main questions I would prepare for are...how do the financials statements link/flow, what are the valuation methods used to value a company, and they may ask some other very general question on the valuation methodologies like what are some of the items you would look at when selecting comparables...The interview will not be very technical on modeling as the firm will really want to make sure that you know what you are getting into and will have the stamina to do the job
