Michael Page Recruiting

Applied for a job through the Michael Page site, they called back and said i WASN'T a good fit for the specific job but wanted me to come to talk about other possibities saying i had a good resume bla bla and bring resume&references in with me.

BackGround:
June graduate
NON-target(CUNY)
Gpa 3.5+
Great Internships
(nothing brand name like my school lol but boutiques including a Hedge fund & M&A advisory plus others)
OBV Looking for entry level

Why the f*** do i need to come and speak with them if its not really an interview?
Do they wanna just check if I can read or something?
Are they gonna try and make me sign some dumb contract saying i can only get a job through them cuz if thats the case I'll curse them the fuccccccckkkkkkkkkk out, lolz

They are authentic. The jobs they have are real. if they send you to a company for an interview, you have a very good chance of getting a job. They will keep sending you for interviews until you get a job. Don't piss them off. Most of the recruiters will not work with entry-level candidates. If you apply online directly with CUNY degree, you have a good idea where your resume is going to go.

Michael Page is a famous recruiter. As you will be a fresh grad, it will be a good source of network for you. Try to build relationships with some people in recruiting firms. They can come in handy when you least expect it. You never know.

Invest first, investigate later.

An MP consultant, like every other recruiter, gets comp for getting new candidates in the database. They are good, yes, but be aware of this before you go.

All they will do is chat with you, talk about your experience, take some notes and say they'll be in regular touch about opportunities. Standard tactic.

Keep in mind your Michael Page interview is going to be as important as any job interview you'll have. Recruiters like Michael Page are the gatekeeper between you and employment and they're only going to put their top candidates in front of prospective employers.

And that is why they want to meet you in person. They can't have anyone embarass them in front of one of their clients.

I had a fairly bad experience with them...brought me in for a role in S&T they were looking to fill and then transitioned into the firm constantly contacting me about how i'd be a great recruiter lol....just my two cents, all above could be very valid.

its one way or the other: hate me or admire.

Companies hire these guys to scout talent for them - I and several friends landed jobs through recruiters. Some of them will waste your time, and that is why you should be talking to ALL of them. Don't understimate how connected some of them are, so make a good impression: the person who placed me at a job years ago was old college friends with the MD I ended up working for and made the recommendation after a ten minute interview.

Also, look at it this way: if you're going to a recruiter, chances are that you need them more than they need you. There's no shortage of people looking for work, and the recruiting agencies are making a killing lately. Treat it like an interview.

This may be true for Private Equity/Hedge Funds, but in general it's not. Finding well rounded, qualified candidates is much more difficult than most people believe. Many companies struggle to find and then retain talent. This is why recruitment firms exist in the first place. If the heavy supply of talent really was there, the companies would just let their HR take care of all the recruiting (and not pay ridiculous fees to these HH firms).

I don't think my opinion is valid to you, as I just know the way they work in Spain. But I take advantage to get it off my chest!

My experience with a headhunter - sooooo great. He called me at the very moment he had any news from the company. At the end I decided to reject the job offer of the company he had been hired for, and the following day he called me with four different selection process that perfectly suited my profile.

My experience with recruiters (particularly Michael Page) - so awful!! The job offers Michael Page (MP) has are quite good (at least for me), but MP is just unable to do it well. They do not even know what departments are in IB or what is the work about, it is impossible to allocate someone correctly this way. Let me tell you my experience as an example. I had an interview with MP in September. They said that I was the perfect candidate for any post they had in IB at that moment (2 years experience, three languages, very good marks), but I have been called only three times since then: first time for the structured finance department in Rabobank, after the first interview they rejected me because I was too senior (didn't MP know it was for an entry level position?); second time for the corporate finance department in Carlyle, but they didn't even called me because they had already made a job offer to another candidate (they included me in a process that had begun the previous month!); last time, a month ago, to interview me in person again and tell me that they had already allocated candidates in large PE/banking firms (why do they make me waste my morning to tell me about people I do not know?).

Anyway, sending your resume to Michael Page is free, so do it. The worse thing that can happen is that you waste a couple of mornings.

I've dealt with Michael Page before. They called me up numerous times regarding job openings. They were pretty nice when they talked to me. Although I was not interested in most of them, but I would not shut out recruiters. They are a valuable resource to have when shit hits the fan.
