Millennium Management - Equity Teams

Hey guys,

Does anyone have information on Millennium Management's Equity teams? Whether it's their role, culture, ideal candidates, anything would be useful

Im guessing they are some kind of long equity fund but not entirely sure

Thanks

I assume you're referring to their relative value fundamental equity teams (L/S). Generally they're sector specific and there's multiple independent teams per sector. Sharpe ratio is the key focus and many teams are more trading oriented in order to cut losses and lock in gains quickly. If you're joining as an investment analyst you'll be building the models, collecting information, and relaying it back to the senior analysts/PM. Culture will differ by team. Hope that helps.

Having worked at a "big 4" multi-manager fund (Citadel, Point72, Balyasny, Millennium) previously and going to join a second one shortly here, I can tell you without hesitation that the "culture" at the firm doesn't matter...it's all about the team because that's your family for 70-90 hrs a week. It's all that matters at any of these shops. The culture of the team is driven by the PM - trading vs. investing, quantitative vs. qualitative, sizing, positioning, bonus payouts, etc are all driven by the PM.

In other words, there's no general statement that can be made about any specific firm. I've seen teams as large as 10 people, I've seen some as small as 2-3 people. At the end of the day, the firm doesn't care as long as you're putting up a strong P&L.

I think he's right below.

Basically they are a big prop fund. With siloed teams. They do pay well. We had a guy leave our firm for them with a million dollar signing bonus. I believe he ended up leaving because he couldn't move the needle enough.
