ML IB Book Club

I got an email the other week from diversity recruiting at ML inviting me to submit my resume for the Merrill Lynch Investment Banking & Global Markets book club with mandatory phone discussions.. I've never heard of this type of recruiting program before..

Is anyone else participating in this program? The book we have to read is "Investment Biker Around the World" by Jim Rogers. Has anyone read this book/would you recommend it?

The following is a description of the program that was included in the email. It was emailed by my school's career services office:

"The Merrill Lynch Global Markets & Investment Banking Diversity Campus Recruiting Team invites you to participate in our first virtual book club of the fall recruiting season. The selected literature will provide participants with a general overview and introduction to the investment banking industry. This unique opportunity offers participants: • Access to front-line producers in Sales & Trading and Investment Banking • Ability to build industry knowledge prior to the interview process • Competitive networking advantage In order to participate, please submit the following by the close of business on Monday, July 28th: • Recent resume • Shipping address within the next two weeks Selections will be made on a first come, first serve basis. Spaces are limited. Acceptance notifications will be communicated via email by Thursday, July 31st.
For any additional questions, please contact XXXXXXXXX XXXXXX at: XXXXXXX@ML.com Thank you in advance for your participation!"

So no, not explicitly for minorities but I'm guessing diversity recruiting means it is slanted toward minorities. Again, screw the book. It is the networking opportunities that make this worthwhile.
