I am a sophomore at a non-target school who would like to eventually get an internship at a BB as an IBD analyst by the time I graduate. I was just wondering what everyone's opinion is on middle market PE firms, and if anyone has any knowledge of the firms in Detroit? What would be better for someone who wants to obtain a FT position at a top tier PE firm; to get a mid market internship or a BB IBD internship? Thanks

Huron Capital Partners is the only one I know in Detroit. BB IBD would probably be better than a lower MM PE internship but maybe not a top tier MM PE shop (although you won't find them in Detroit and would be very tough to intern at one anywhere). As a sophomore, take whatever you can get that's decent.
Quarton Partners near Detroit might take sophomore interns.

Long time poster on WSO.
I'm a junior liberal arts major at a target. My goal was to get an IB for the summer, but unfortunately I couldn't convert the BB interviews I got through OCR.
The MM PE firm that'll be working for this summer is around 1bn - 5bn in AUM (non NYC/SF). They do give return offers for full time, however the probability is very low. If possible, I'd like to skip the banking stint and start as an analyst at a comparable MM PE firm.
Are there a number of MM PE firms that recruit for full time? I'm aware that some upper MMs and megafunds recruit for full time, but those are honestly out of my reach given my low GPA. If not, I'd like to recruit for BBs or elite boutiques again if its a possibility. How should I approach full time recruiting?
I'd work on getting the return offer first. MM PE experience will look good for full-time recruiting if you don't receive an offer.

Hey Guys,
I am a rising junior doing an internship at a middle market private equity firm, and I was wondering steps that I can take to leverage this experience to ensure that I get a solid gig next summer.
I know that I won't be getting a FT offer from this because I don't have an MBA. This is the only finance experience that I have had and I wonder what things I can pursue. I go to a non target, and long term, I'd like to see myself getting back into the PE industry long term. With that said, I know that certain things like experience working in M&A or getting an MBA will help me get back into PE. Ideally, I would like a FO role at a BB. How can I go about achieving this goal?

How much AUM? I am working at a boutique M&A advisory shop, I chose it over a small PE shop (invest in companies with 5-50MM in sales and comparable EV). Are you getting any modelign experience?
Try to be assertive, I have only been at my gig for ~2 weeks and I let them know, from early on, what I would like to learn. I suggest you do the same. Good luck. Not too many sophomores have a good internship.
I'm not sure about AUM, but the firm invests in companies with 20-80M in Revenues
I'm getting some exposure to modeling but as its my first exposure to this stuff, there is a steep learning curve.

depends, do you go to a decent school with decent recruiting? Shouldn't be too difficult, a PE internship as a sophomore is great experience. Not many people have that, and I personally know a lot of people doing FT/SA IBD with a sophomore PE internship. Your best bet would be to work hard and build trust with your junior/senior co-workers. If they like you and trust you, they can probably help you with SA recruiting next year by introducing you to their contacts. Hope this helps, you're in a good position. Good luck
