Mobility within GS Offices
How difficult is it to move from a regional office to NY headquarters (or another regional office) after a year, granted you are staying within your same banking group?

Sorry to hijack thread, but for anyone with insight, I'm also curious about the difficulty of international transfers within the same bank/group.
Also interested. Eg. Chicago to NYC?
Mobility is only after 18 months at the firm. Need to be well ranked. You have phone interviews and mostly focused around fit and motivation to move.
Knowing direct stories - mobility at GS is always painfully more difficult than they make it sound. ^^ correct that you'll have to wait and will also probably be based on headcount (out of your control), plus your own performance needs to be great, but that goes without saying. This holds for something like SF TMT >> NYC TMT or Houston NR >> NYC NR, but moving to a different group or especially a different division would be much harder (unless you're looking at moving OUT of banking for whatever reason...)
It is clearly easier to move within own groups as you probably jave worked with someone from the targeted office. Networking in advance is important. But as mentioned, really depends on headcounts. Moving to the financing group is also possible.
