Moelis NY vs EVR NY
Hey guys I have analyst lateral offers at these places. Im still stuck between doing Career IB or going the PE route. I will be doing a third year analyst stint at both these places.
Would appreciate any input. Both offers are generalist.
So just to be clear, you've done almost two years of IBD, and this lateral move is for a job beginning in... August? Both have strong deal flow, though EVR has cooled off a little bit over the past couple of years IIRC.
If you're keeping PE in mind, I would personally recommend Moelis, as the MDs have a reputation of really going up to bat for their analysts. However, I think this is mostly in the context of first year analysts- going in as a third year, I'm not sure if things will be different for you. Overall, I don't think there's a wrong choice here.
The wrong choice is trying to make a career out of IB. Jesus christ unless you're into charity get onto the buy side.
You do realize that the buyside isn't what it used to be? You should really think about what you want to do before jumping on that conveyor belt. Not everywhere on the buyside has better hours and not everywhere on the buyside has better pay.
Banking is a solid career if you enjoy being a transaction specialist, not to mention the comp is great and it is a conveyor belt through VP. PE is a 2 and out party that ends with most kids having to find new careers after business school. Not to mention that your pay will be basically the same between PE and Banking at either of the above mentioned places at the Associate level (may even give the edge to IB)
Couldn't have said it better myself (as someone who is about to get kicked out of his PE program without a road to move up in PE)
Go to Evercore for the slightly better hours Go to Moelis for the slightly better exits/pay
If you don't mind me asking, what was your process for these lateral positions?
Very interested as well
Moelis for exits. Can you explain how you went about getting these lateral positions
Go to Evercore. Much better culture and lifestyle than Moelis. Heard Moelis is a revolving door of analysts because of how much they're working
Now add associates to that list.

Could you go into more detail into why the buy-side has changed?
If my goal is to break into a hedge fund and I want to avoid IB culture, do you think its a good idea to look into equity research? Or should I continue to search for banking analyst roles. My worry is my modeling skills will not be up to par in equity research.
Background I am currently doing HY & IG TMT credit research at a top 3 major rating agency. (
