Hello, I'm looking for ideas to solve my dilemma.
I'm 29 years old and have a BA in Music composition. After leaving music school in 2007, I found it very difficult to find a steady source of income and moved into finance at around age 27. I received a Series 7 in February of 2014 from a low end Broker Dealer and left the firm to pursue better options.
Through the summer of 2014, I worked as an Uber driver in Hoboken and tried interviewing at many well-established firms, to no avail. Toward the end of the summer of 2014, I found a proprietary trading firm called T3. I was very interested and inclined to join the firm, but had to wait till I could establish the funds to open up the 5k account in order to trade.
This is where the story/situation takes a turn for the strange
As, I mentioned. I did receive a Series 7 & 63 in the early winter of 2014 and didn’t incur any negative judgments on my license. While pursuing a career in finance, I took many NYC civil service exams and was able to find myself in the fortunate position of being accepted into the FDNY.
In the fall of 2014, I was given an opportunity to become employed with the FDNY and decided to take the position. My grueling training ended on Cinco de Mayo and went to work at my firehouse in Brooklyn.
It’s been a wild journey and I’m very thankful for the opportunity to serve the city of New York. After joining the FDNY, I decided it would be a good time to get back into finance and utilize my license. I then approached T3 once again.
I filled for registration with T3 on Friday, 6/3/2015 and received and email on Monday 6/8/2015 saying I was rejected.
I made phone calls and was given the answer “This was not an offer for employment and we aren’t obligated to divulge the reasons for rejection. Our method is of a proprietary nature and can’t give any more information as to why we aren’t registering you. Thank you for applying”
I tried calling my recruiter and only received a text saying, “something came back with your fingerprints, compliance has the final say. There’s nothing, I can do!”
What nonsense!!!
What can I do? I want to trade part time on my days off. I have the drive and enthusiasm. I want to learn and grow. I’m fascinated by the field; get a Series 3, learn of option plays….the Greeks…become a student and grow. I want to become financially independent and rid myself of my financial woes. The only explanation as to why I was rejected is my credit score. I was arrested a few years ago, but wasn’t convicted and have no felonies. If there were any real issues, how did I become a NYC Firefighter…Obviously there’s a major disconnect!!!
It's probably the arrest that dinged you. Credit scores generally do not affect the hiring process. If you were never convicted, I would expunge your criminal record.
