Mortgage Backed Security Prices
I need to find historical prices for a specific Fannie Mae MBS or at least other 30yr ones. Any advice. Bloomberg help desk literally gave up, in the middle of talking (well IM-ing) with them they said "It looks like your busy, contact us when you're available." I would have thought it was funny if I wasn't in desperate need of this data.
I have access to Trepp's Database.
Do you know of anything similar that covers residential MBSs
Doesn't that just cover commercial real estate. These are residential.
MBS pricing? (Originally Posted: 08/17/2007)
So the Fed dropped the discount rate by 50bps and are taking risky assets like MBS as easily as say treasuries as collateral. What I'm wondering is what value do they assign to these MBS assets? Since there's obviously a big discrepancy between the almost non-existent market price (right? I mean these things aren't really trading are they anymore?) and all the models are being called into question after the last couple of weeks and all the ratings are complete shit, is the Fed just taking everyone's word for what their MBS products are worth or is there some fair/non-arbitrary system of pricing/valuing these assets as the Fed accepts them for collateral?
