Move from mid-tier BB to 1st tier BB?
I currently work at a mid-tier BB (barcap, cs, DB) as a 1st year analyst in a product group. I may have the opportunity to move to the same group at a better BB (ms, GS, JPM). Provided that the two groups are comparable, my question is, is it worth it if my goal is to move to PE/HF in a year/as soon as I can? I know this has been discussed before and the general consensus is no because you will have to build your reputation again at the new firm, but we know that name is the single most important thing in finance so I am a bit struggling here.
Any advice welcome, thanks a lot guys.
would recommend against it unless the group at the new bank is very top notch (MS m&a etc)
not worth it. Unless you wanted to finish your 2 year gig at mid-tier and lateral over to top-tier for better exit opps, I've seen that done quite a bit.
But fi you want to get out quick...stick with current bank.
Thanks. My exit opps at current bank is ok - quite a lot leave to decent big and MM PE funds, but no KKR, Blackstone, SAC, you name it.
