MS WM Intern in Need of Career Guidance

Hi All,

This is my first post on WSO and it'll be pretty lengthy, but I'd appreciate help with any of my questions.

I'm a second year who recently got hooked up with a WM internship at MS. The internship is flexible and is basically learn as you go, and my employer has made it clear that he will try his best to provide me with opportunities and projects to facilitate my learning and that I can learn whatever I want to about the industry during this internship.

However, so far, the internship has been mostly paper pushing, and this seems to align with the experiences of many others on this forum who have had WM internships. I've asked for work involving business metric evaluation, presentation preparation, and research/analysis, as it seems this is what normal WM analysts perform during their summers. But, it seems that this is too broad of a category for my employer to give me any solid work for. I am currently one week in, and there are supposedly a lot of Excel related projects coming in for me in the coming weeks. Is there anything specific work that you guys would recommend me to ask for that you feel will help my learning process and give me a slight edge when applying for an internship next summer? Also, what steps should I take this summer to help with the application process for an analyst position in the near future? Lastly, how difficult will the transition be if I want to get into IB?

Any tips, advice, or recommendations at all would be greatly appreciated. Thank you all so much ahead of time!
