Networking Events, What are you supposed to wear?
What are you supposed to wear to networking events? Especially if it's not specified. Would jeans and dress shirt be ok? or are jeans a big no no?

only if the shirt is black or silver and the jeans are true religion
Don't wear jeans. Where is the event being held? What does the invite say? Safer to be overdressed than underdressed.
Even being held at the university, invite doesn't say anything except its networking over drinks and canapes
do yourself the favor and go at least business casual. do yourself another favor and google networking etiquette, attire, anyhting. cuz you obviously are clueless. keyword is this: prospective employer. think about it.
layer at least 2 or 3 polos and pop all the collars. doesn't matter what you're wearing for pants, you'll be stylin so hard
Suit and shirt. Have a tie in your pocket and if majority of people are wearing ties jump to the restroom and put yours on. If the event turns out to be business casual don´t put the tie on and check your jacket (or leave on the back of your chair.

Networking Event : What to Wear?? (Originally Posted: 04/16/2014)
I have a day-long diversity networking event at a huge financial firm coming up and I wasn't told about what to do about attire. I've looked on WSO but most of the tips are for guys and I'm a girl. Should I lean towards something more conservative like a pant suit/skirt suit or something a bit more casual like a pencil skirt + blouse or a dress + blazer. Any help?
Thanks
NEVER EVER WEAR A SKIRT SUIT
Care to tell why?
Don't know much about female fashion, but as a rule of thumb conservative is usually better. I would go with the pant suit.
have seen plenty of successful girls wear skirt suits. go with what appeals to you, is comfortable, and is somewhat conservative. don't overthink it
As a rule always err on the side of being over dressed. You can always remove the jacket if the event is less formal.
Ummmm skirt suits are technically more conservative than pants suits. That's a fact.
That said, I would play it the most safely and wear a pants suit in a dark color with plain closed toe shoes and a white or light blue shirt. It's the most acceptable business professional outfit these days.
If you happen to be slightly more formal than others, I think it can only be noticed and appreciated. You'll be seen as someone that is taking this very seriously for you career. Just make sure you feel comfortable in how you're dressed... If your preocupied and self conscious about what you're wearing it'll come across easily.
Good luck.
Wear one of those dark tone pants suits with a brightly colored shirt with the collar over the suit jacket. This is what I see 90% of the females wear at these events.
For office events , you can strive for dark skirt and blazer with light colour shirt , in addition wear heels footwear . Blazers gives a professional look for meetings. I typically like to wear c & m black blazer and skirt with white shirt .
What to wear for networking/meeting up with an alum? (Originally Posted: 05/13/2014)
Later this week, I'll be meeting with a couple of different connections I have made through networking. One is an alum I have talked to on the phone already, and we are meeting at a coffee shop. The other is an old family friend, and I will be meeting at his office. (I have also spoken on the phone to him before, if it matters). What is appropriate attire? I assume a suit is overboard. This is in NYC, by the way.
always dress conservative, look professional for such meetups..
Suit and tie for the office would be my guess, and maybe lose the tie for the coffee shop. Not sure about your exact situation, but overdressing is much less of a problem than underdressing.
Definitely a suit in the office. When are you meeting for coffee? After hours, mid day, a weekend?
I'm meeting rather early in the morning Friday, so he'll be in work clothes I'd imagine.
yea dress shirt pants and suit. no tie. or tie no suit.
Never ever do a tie with no suit.
Suit goes all the way! Better to overdress and he'll most likely wear a suit (at the office). On the other hand, losing the tie for the meeting @ the coffee shop is totally okay I'd assume.
